Besides being an advisory board member of the Solid Waste Special Service District, I now serve as vice chairman of the Timpanogos Special Service District, Chairman of the Utah County Council of Governments, Executive council member of the Mountain Association of Governments and committee chairman of the Physical Planning Water Quality Committee Mountainland Association of Governments. As a member of your City Council I can say for myself and the Council persons that we are concerned with the orderly growth of our city and the welfare of every person who lives in Lehi. would encourage you to become involved in city business. Let us know your thoughts, come to us with your problems. Each one of us is as close to you as your telephone. have At this Christmas season it is my pleasure to commun- icate with Lehi Citizens and Light charges their customers. In cities where Utah Power and Light serves the residents, it is necessary for the city to pay for all electric power used for street lighting, lighting for parks, ball fields, rodeo grounds and public buildings out of the General Fund. With Lehi the resident pays for these expenses out of the power bill he receives each month and still gets it cheaper than the nop mal fee for this county by 20 percent. Bicentennial Park This year we were able to complete our Bicentennial Park on 9th North. We received $14,000. from the Utah Bicentennial Commission. The project cost around $21,000., and with the work done by our city forces we now have a Park that would have cost twice that amount. The Park has an automatic sprinkling system which in the long run will save many dollars as it will not have to be tended as our other parks area. Lights for Softball Field We were able to place lights on another softball diamond and by so doing we are able to sponsor tournaments. We did sponsor one tournament which was very successful. There was a considerable amount of work done by the Power Department. We are now in the process of installing n which will a new split the load of our supply and furnish better service. The total cost of this project will be in the neighborhood of about $15,000. It is necessary if adequate service is to be maintained for our city. Lehi is growing at a rapid rate and it is our determination to stay ahead of problems if at all possible. New underground power service for 100 homes was installed in 1976 for a cost of $8,100.00 and 1240 man hours. Also, it was necessary to move overhead power lines where they were in the way for new curb and gutter instalsub-statio- 1 1 if: j COUNCIL guide Lehi affairs, Melvin Kirkham, John Daly, Mayor Evan LEHI CITY We L. accomplished this sub-grad- , 1 Evan L. Council Chamber This year we remodeled the West room in the City Hall and we were given the green light through a successful bond election on the Timpanogos Special Service District. This project is now in the design problems with too much water and flooding conditions, we had a large culvert on 2nd West where the waste ditch crosses, damaged by high water. This year we were able to build a new culvert and solve a serious problem. project by means of a $6,000. grant and by using our own labor we completed the project without direct cost to Lehi. We are now in the process of doing the same on 3rd North and 4th West, and again we plan to use our own labor and finish the project with little or no cost to the city. Collector Road We finished the collector road just north of the freeway between 3rd West and 1st East which consisted of bridging e the creek and laying and black top. There is also two culvert syphons on this job. This new road will prove very beneficial for residents living north of the freeway. Trlnnaman Lane Collectio System The reality of having a sewer in the northwest part of Lehi is one step closer to being realized as we are now completing the design and when that is finished we will be able to begin construction. Hopefully we can begin construction in 1977, depending oh the availability of the funds from E.P.A. Timpanogos Special Service District A very important step forward was made possible when I. stage and ground is being purchased for the plant site in the area south and east of American Fork. All Deparments Were Busy All of the departments accomplished much this year. There was 3000 tons of plant mix black top used throughout the city this year which includes 18 blocks of black top between new curb and existing roadway. We made 48 new sewer and water connections. All the departments worked a considerable amount on the Bicentennial Park and were able to keep up with their regularly assigned duties. We increased our Police force by one officer making it possible for the department to free one officer to do investigations. We have had much more success at solving cases now that one man is free to follow up on leads and stay on the case. The Parks department did its usual great job keeping our parks in top shape and again winning the award at the Memorial Building. This is the 17th consecutive year for this presentation. As you all know, the cost of living continues to climb and consequently so does material and services we purchase raise in price. Notwithstanding, we have been able to hold down our cost to you citizens in all areas except garbage collection and electric power.
