The Pioneers recieved the opening kick off on the rain soaked field and could not move on their first series, forced to punt the kick was blocked thru the end zone for a safety and the Dons led The ensuing kick gave the Dons good field position and they moved via the run for their first six point and led 0 in the first quarter. The 2-- 8-- Pioneers operating under the quarterbacking of Ray Worthen who was playing for the injured John Welch moved from their own six out to the 35 yard line before a fumble gave the Dons another opportunity deep in Pioneer territory. This time the Pioneers held on an excellent defensive effort as the Dons couldn't move the ball. The first quarter ended with the same score. The Lehi defensive unit spent most of the day on the field and played well again as Spanish Fork enjoyed excellent field position the entire afternoon. The Dons scored twice more in the second quarter to lead by a 20-- count at half time. The Dons opened the second half with two quick scores on the passing of Scott Johnson to lead 32-- which turned out to be the final score. Thru the rest of the third and fourth quarter neither team mounted a serious 0 0 scoring threat and that remained the final tally. Pioneers to Host Payson Lions Today Giants Place Third in Little League The Lehi Giant little league football team finish the season in good fashion as they entered the play offs last week and won both games for a third place finish in the Central league. Tuesday night they played the Pleasant Grove Steelers and won by a 25 to 13 score. The Steelers led 13 to 6 at intermission. Jeff Jones and Kent Harris scored second half touchdowns as the final was 25 to 13 for the Giants. Saturdays game for third and fourth place pitted the Giants and Bears with the Giants ringing up a 19 to 6 win. Geyerman hit Scott Colledge for the opening T.D., a screen pass to Lane Cardon and a Geyerman to Jeff Jones accounted for the final T.D. A string of five straight wins for the giants to finish the season. The Payson Lions visit the Pioneer home field this Thursday at 3 p.m. for the Pioneer's final home game of the 1975 season. The game has major importance for the Pioneers as they still have a chance for post season play should they win the two remaining games on their schedule. The Lions having the same record as the Pioneers with only one region six win should be an evenly matched game. The Lions won over Carbon and lost to the Utes, the Pioneers won over the Utes and play the Carbon team next week to finish the regular season. The Pioneers lost a close preseason encounter with Payson at their homecoming in a game they could have won so the Pioneers will definitley will be ready for this game. It should be a good one. As kids, we started smoking was smart. Why don't we stop for the same reason because it The Little League finals saw an American Fork Colt team "steal" the Championship, as the young Colts came up with a rock tough defense that held the Pleasant Grove Vikings well in check. The Colts coached by Bob Wilson donated a touchdown to the Vikes as a first quarter pass attempt went astray, but the stout Colts during the third period sprung their swift back Scott Richardson loose for a big touchdown. Scott on his run broke about six tackles as he worked his way outside and then raced down the sidelines 41 yards with the tieing td. Both the Vikes and the Colts battled fairly even until very late in the game, when with just 45 seconds left to go in the title battle, the Vikes got possesion and drove to about the 10 yard line. The Vikes sent a runner into the line and out of that pileup came the Colts Bruce Hansen with the ball. Bruce sped 70 yards with the ball and the title as he plain "stole" the ball from the PG runner. For the Bob Wilson coached Colts it was a fitting climax as the young Colts started slowly, losing early to the Bears, and then a couple of weeks ago the Colts rose up and forced a tie in regulation play as they beat these same Vikes. Each team had one loss, but Saturday the Colts "hung in there" with a strong defense and forced the "mistake" for a great win and each teammember had a hand in the Victory.
