Veron Curtis Attends Dedication of Son Diego Visitor Center Max Ray, the gallant fireman who was injured in fighting the fire at the LaFeria that fateful Sunday afternoon, Is backtowork this week. Veron Curtis, President of the local S.U.P (Sons of Utah Pioneers) attended the dedicatory service for the San Diego Visitors Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter DaySaints. Mr. Curtis was one of five Utah Mormon Battalion members who were called by the First Presidency of the Church to serve as the honor guard at the services. Their duties were to meet the guests as they entered and were privileged to escort President Harold B. Lee to his seat. They put their troops to work building houses, digging wells, making picket fences. They built the first brick kiln in California and used the bricks to build a large courthouse and school.
