Show THE LEHI FREE PRESS, LEHL UTAH Things to Know About Civil Defense aeed for a strong civil defense program: What Is Civil Defense? Civil defense is a way of saving lives. It is a way of protecting you and your family in case of attack on the United States. It is a way of helping you to keep going, and to keep production going, in spite of nuclear, biological, or chemical warfare. No square inch of our nation can be guaranteed safe from evwar. ery kind of danger in One of the chief aims of civil defense is to train you to survive whatever danger arises and to help you return to work no matter what may come. Unless we keep producing both in the factories and on the farms in the face of attack, the enemy would all-o- win ut the war. His aim would be to keep our defense plants shut down. YOUR aim would be to get back to work and give our armed forces the things they needed to beat the enemy. Who Is Responsible For Civil Defense: ; . You are! Civil defense is set up Federal and state law; law will work unless you up by own actions. ' That by the but no back it is why, lfipiiii in the end, the responsibility for civil defense is YOURS. The thing to remember is this: If bombs from enemy planes fall on your city, they will not fall on a plan, or an organization, or a system of government. They will fall on you and your family and friends. If you were a soldier, you would be trained to take oare of yourself and keep on fighting. As a defender of the home front, You must learn to protect yourself and family. Despite every precaution, a soldier might be killed; so might you. But the more you know, the better trained you are, the better your chances for survival. The whole idea of civil defense is to help you save your own life and to make the best use of your own special ability and skill in an emergency. Then you will be able to save yourself and others if trouble comes. If You Don't Live in a City, Should You Take Part in Civil Defense? Emphatically, yes! Civil defense is your business no matter where you live. Because of large nuclear weapons, which can cover hun dreds of square miles with radio active fallout, everyone whether in the city or a rural area is en dangered in some way. If you are a farmer, if you raise live stock or crops, you are on the high priority list for some kind of biological warfare attack. If you live anywhere outside a target area in a small town or on a farm jpQU jhave a civil defense job, lu: and Mrs. Thomas Powers spent an exciting week ind in Las Vegas.
