Contacts were made with farmers by A. L. Seeley of the Employment Bureau, to determine their beet thinning and hoeing needs. Student work applicatons, prepared by the Employment Service personnel, were obtained at the high schools to determine the availability of youth labor for the spring season. A supervisor was placed in charge of the crews, with complete responsibility for their attendance and work. In most cases each boy, whenever he intended to be absent from work, would notify his supervisor in order to keep his position in the crew. Because of the efficient way these crews worked and were supervised their services were called for on many occasions for weeding and hoeing other crops. One crew also worked near Provo, at the request of growers there. One of the most important of the supervisors is that they taught the boys to do good work, to work together, and to be dependable. Parents of the boys called the local employment office in many cases, complment-in- g officials and supervisors for the interest taken in the boys. Pay averaged $4.25 per day; in good clean fields as high as $7.20 per day, and in weedy fields dropped as low as $3. "In conclusion it can be said that the money earned by these boys is kept in the community, and that the supervised crews are very receptive to having only one boss. The employment service will continue to be a service to employers as long as the demand $ 16,883.31 l. 's 2.445.35 202.16 101.25 64.00 76.27 104.35 234.40 129.65 ...
