Be Conducted Ab Jenkins, famous racing driver and road safety coordinator for the State of Utah, has recommended a survey of traffic on U. S. Highway 91, according to word received this week by Val E. Johnson, Lehi P. T. A. Safety Chairman. Mr. Jenkins contacted D H. Whitenburg, chairman of the State Road Commission, and Mr. Whitenburg stated that a survey be made in the near future. The commission chairman further promised that the department would cooperate with local officials in slowing down traffic and making Highway 91 a safer thoroughfare through Lehi. ' He cited the need for some action on the matter and expressed his willingness to help the situation, Mr, Jenkins reported. Findings of the survey will determine what will be done to remedy the traffic problem here. Mr. Jenkins was one of the guest speakers last Thursday at a safety meeting sponsored by the Lehi P. T. A. safety committee in the high school auditorium. The noted racing driver gave valuable tips on how to drive a car safely, as well as "dos and donts" on the highway. He told of his experi ences in racing on the Salt Flats, and told of the importance of checking brakes, headlights, tires and other parts of the car. The alert will be a pulsating signal beginning at 6 p. m. on the date set. At 6.10 p. m. the signal will be given a straight blast. County officials further decided that a series of similar tests will be held throughout the summer months to test thoroughly the strength of the defense organizations throughout the county. Purpose of the initial test will be only to test signals so that the effectiveness of the present-signa- l p can be determined. James G. Under the plans drawn up during the past weeks, Lehi was to have had rescue squads, first-aisquads, and auxiliary and regular firemen and policemen alerted for action when the air raid signal was given Furthermore, block wardens would have been organized to carry out their part of the rehearsal, and citizens would have instruction cards bearing information about what they might d - do. , ,. , uchvW the one by Lehi officials would require much more time than the alert planned by county leaders. They will also haul gravel for use on some of the city's streets. These jobs will be performed Saturday by the guard. On the following day the men will complete preparations for their third practical training course, which will cover the firing of individual weapons April 21 and 22 at Camp Williams. These individual weapons include rifles, pistols and carbines. On May 5 and 6 the unit will practice the firing of crew-servweapons such as machine guns and bazookas. ed DUP Oflicers and Members Attend Convention ) A good representation of officers and members from the Lehi camps of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, attended convention at Provo, Saturday.
