"Lon" Roundy, recently elected president of the Lakeside Flying Club, stated in an interview this week that "Air travel is fast becoming a major method of transportation in this era of progression and change. Air travel is safer, more pleasant, and more economical than most people realize." Mr. Roundy pointed out that analysis of the causes of air travel accidents shows that most accidents are caused by three factors: flying under hazardous weather conditions, sometimes of such severity that ore wouldn't venture to take hj car out of the garage, "buzzing,' flying low or showing off, and 'the making of unauthorized landings in un- familar territory. It is pointed out in this connection that comparisons in erms of accidents per miles traveled show travel by air to be safer than other relatively modes. The Lakeside Flying Club was organized with ten members, March 15 of this year. The ten members, all of whom have flown, represent a group inter ested in extending their trave! reach. Lehi music lovers thrill ed to the range and expertness of the presentation. This chorus of 50 male voices, directed by Albert J. South wick, was organized in 1892, and has sung as a choral group since that date. It's purpose has been for the mutual enjoyment of its members in the pursuit of music, the culture, promotion of musical and the establishment of a permanent male chorus. Proceeds from this concert are being used for the improvement of the stake tabernacle. President Goates explained that painting of the interior of the tabernacle and, if possible, renewal of the heating system are two of the major improvements' planned. This increase brings the seaboard price for a 100 pound bag of sugar to $7.95, which is 40 cents above the selling price of sugar exisiting at the time the Secretary of Agriculture set the 1949 consumption quota. Mr. Hart Sanders, Manager of the South Salt Lake district, including the Gunnison district, stated that this additional raise in price has not yet affected local prices, but states that additional advances in the sugar price locally is expected shortly. Mr, Sanders called attention to the fact that this advance in sugar price will reflect favorably on the price which farmers will receive for their beets. He stated that it was fur- ther concrete evidence that Secreary of Agriculture Brannon meant what he said when he stated that Domestic sugar prices should be higher in 1949 . than in 1948." This is the second advance in sugar price since the Secretary made the above statement and set a favorable consumption quota for the year 1949. This advance, coupled with the steady decline in other farm commodities brings sugar beets into thenost favorable price position that has existed since the war began.
