The drawings were simple cute, anthropomorphic images of mice, cats and pigs. But all notions of juvenilia faded once someone read "Maus." Graphic artist Art Spiegelman had fashioned a harrowing collection of his father's Holocaust recollections in a straightforward narrative that perfectly matched the somewhat static drawings.
