Show The Daily Utah Chronicle. Friday, December 8, 1978 Page Seven LETTERS LETTERS Motherhood expands potential Editor: All people take different points of view on different issues in life based on past experiences. It is important to respect each person's viewpoints, because they come about with a reason. On the subject of family, not all people have similar personal experience. Some are luckier than others in that they arc abie to be a member of a happy, healthy, working family, as compared to the all too frequent defunct entity. Being a person that is a member of a generally happy family, (although all families have their problems), I find great joy in putting energy into keeping it working smoothly. It is within the family I tryly find my greatest friends. As for women in general, poetntial is great; even great enough to command the armies that were mentioned in Wednesday's letter to the editor. But what is the need for that, when they could involve themselves in the creative, challenging job of molding and shaping superb individuals that will minimize the need for armies or war? And w hat is unequal about this. Our society is a result of the people that are in it. If we increase the ability of women to be excellent mothers, we increase the quality of our society. What is more beautiful than raising a child to be a kind, good person? It requires skill, diligence, love and always sacrifice. Being a mother does not limit potential but should expand it. A woman who continually strives for personal growth and maintains an awareness of the world will greatly enrich her family life. These ideals are not separate, but should be considered one fulfillment. And what a fulfilling experience it can be. 1 m grateful that I have had the experience of a rewarding home life and am looking forward to the experience of taking on the challenge of being more than just a "good" mother and family member. I hope that I can be a great mother and spread to others the happiness that I've experienced. In any LETTERS case. I find the most happiness when serving and helping others. I'm' sure you do, too! Stone, are Milfred Craves or Tony Williams less because they can and Buddy Rich won't? Alex Lupinski Musical narrow mindedness Insensitivity to Iranian cause Editor: Jeff Stone's Chronicle Tuesday understanding of the appeal of some music over others, and his idea that we don't look for emotional conflict, are accurate as far as I'm concerned but that's where agreement ends. because it doesn't satisfy To indict the avant-gard- e is level being prejudiced, not just everyone's complexity biased. The latter is psychologically inevitable. But if we don't raise our music prediction level by being fairly exposed to new music information, we become clones and narrow-minde- Editor: Karen Potter -- d. Giving the impression that isn't meaningful is avant-gard- e false, too, because music is all things to all people: your closure can be unrelated to me, or my theme unrelated to you discord. However, unless we listen enough to alternatives to tradition, of course we won't be satisfied how else did tradition itself arise? Or was it really a power play with no option? jazz is solidly tonal plus is one person's bias, that's all. I happen improvisational just to recognize lo's ot bridge Imtresses and logic in freer form music, plus emotions and sophistication. In fact, new music wouldn't shock if we were more open in everyday life. Stone, the advantage to "being left up in the air again at the end" is that we have the freedom to expand and continue it ourselves, unrestricted. Who says we have to finish something anyway? But new music isn't haphazardly constructed especially jazz, because dues had to be paid before becoming creative. Where has creativity gone in the establishment? Why are we afraid of the unknown? KUER and Salt Lake, are you To claim that good listening? It is really discouraging for me to see that some people could be so misled with their opinions. The other day I read a letter to the editor by William Lines in the Chronicle. "Shah doesn't liv e in downtown." Now believe it or not, we are well aware that the shah doesn't live downtown, although a lot of people wish that he did. This would mean an end to Iran's problems. Apparently. Lines hasn't been watchingTVor readingany newspaper, because if he had been he would have known that President Carter has announced his full support of the shah. About a month, ago an estimated two million Iranians demonstrated in the streets of Tehran to let the whole world know of their desires, which are independence and democracy for ev ery Iranian. Howev er, they were met by the shah's army, U.S. adv isers. A great number of the led tactfully by were slaughtered by American- - and British-mad- e people tanks and guns. Lines mentioned that "the taste of Vietnam is still fresh in the mouths of too many people." Well, all I can say is that I like Lines have lost their sense of taste because, think unfortunately, this tastes almost the same. I guess what I am desperately trying to say is, "Hey wake up! You're involved too!" One finds it v ery hard to believe that if Lines was sinc ere at all when he wrote that he wishes he could stop injustices because, if this were the case, he would not turn his back to Iranian people who are desperately struggling against injustice.
