In the 1960s, rock music hit the country and Salt Lake was no exception. But, after 10 years of having to pay for concert damages out of revenue, dancehall operators closed the Terrace off to rock music. In the past 16 years, the Terrace has become the home of countrywestern music for Salt Lake fans. nwranimn if i'i J 4 i TOSHIBA TURNTABLE This turntable featuring audio tecknlka cartridge also has belt controls, drive, 2 speed dial and single play. lie semi-automat- ECCH Henry Hilton of KSOP Radio has been helping Salt Lake listeners to such concerts as Johnny Cash, Donna Fargo, Merle Haggard, Roy Clark and Marty Robbins. The concertbanquet facility, with its elaborate fountains and high, chandelier-studde- d ceilings, has seen such events as new car showings, Gov. Calvin Rampton's Inaugural Ball and banquets for Presidents John F. Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon. In January, Little America, current owners of the property, will raze the old building. Although the company has not definitely announced plans, Dick Andrews, the night manager, said he has heard that a parking terrace or possibly convention facilities will take the place of the old ballroom. "There are no ballrooms left for traditional ballroom dancing," Andrews said. However, dancing enthusiasts will be able to continue their Tuesday night dancing at the Prudential Plaza. "Dancers will go elsewhere, but there is no place compared to this." Andrews said the Terrace closing will leave a hole in the market for smaller concerts. "There's nothing of this same size in the city. We've been successful with countrywestern shows. We've had a lot of people who wouldn't fill the Sail Palace," he said.
