Show Page Eight The Daily Utah Chronicle, Friday, January IS, 1978 really strong and competitive this year," said Burton. "That's why I think we'll be able to take them both." Coach Burton expects good performances from Paula Swim, Karen Hotz and Kathy Blackner. Swim, who competes in the Ute women's swim team 50-yar- d, d and butterfly, qualified for last year's AIAW National Swimming Championship at Rhode Island. d She finished 19th in the fly and d 39th in the fly. Hotz, a freshman d from San Diego, will compete in the d breaststroke and the fly. Hotz is currently the fastest Ute in these events with times of 1:11.6 in the breaststroke and 1:00.7 in the fly. Blackner, a senior, swims most of the long distance freestyle events for 100-yar- faces meet d 200-yar- 100-yar- 200-yar- 100-yar- by ANA DARABAN Chronicle staff The University's women's swim team will travel to Durango, Co. this weekend to compete in a double dual meet with Fort Lewis College and Western State. The Utes, after losing to BYU January 11, are hoping to defeat both of their opponents. Coach Becky Burton said, "We beat Western State at the New Mexico Invitational. And even though we haven't seen Fort Lewis, I believe we can defeat them." Burton's confidence is due to the double dual situationIn this type of competition one team takes a rest while the other two teams compete in an event. "Ouream is 100-yar- the Utes. After they return from their road trip, the Utes will be readying for the Utah Invitational held on January 20 and 21. The teams competing in the Invitational are BYU, Arizona, Wyoming and Western State. Arizona is ranked No. 1, BYU and Wyoming are battling for No. 2, Utah is No. 3 and Western State is ranked No. 4.
