Southern Illinois held the national title three years ago and have never lost their grip on women's gymnastics. Herb Vogel, who has many years of experience and is one of the most respected coaches around, consistently fields teams loaded with talent. Saturday night's meet will be the second of the season for the Utah women. They crushed BYU earlier 139-9Diane Ellingson captured the gymnast title with a sweep of the four events. The Utes also captured the first six team scoring positions. The best BYU could muster was Patti Mortensen's score of 8.25 in the vault and 30.6 total. Utah and Arizona State University (ASU) should fight it out for the WAC championship this year with the title going either way. ASU has won the crown for the past several years. Utah coach Greg Marsden has high hopes for this year's team partly because of the tough schedule the Utes face. Five of the top teams in the country will be in Salt Lake to compete. Among these participants will be three members of past Olympic squads. Marsden stressed the fact that some of the best talent in the United States would be here at the University and that the people should go out and see them. "Student and public support is vital to our program," said Marsden. "Without it the program could go under." The meet will be held in the Special Events Center at 7:30 begin at 6:30 p.m. and admission is free for p.m. Warm-up- s students with current activity cards. 0. all-arou- EXPERT AUTO REPAIR fft SPftfc J" tt n '"' jf jjp! ear fgiy !l DATSUN TOYOTA V.W.
