Now, after 13 years the Palestinian's slogan "ar med struggle is the only way to Democratic Palestine" is still their only choice for their Choice for freedom BCHRQNICLE freedom. Editor: On Jan. 1, 1965, Palestinian freedom fighters launched their first military operation signaling the start of the armed struggle towards the liberation of Palestine. The defeat of the Arab regimes in 1967 accelerated the rise of the Palestinian resistance movement as the alternative around which the Palestinian masses rallied to wage a people's war against the Zionist occupation of Palestine. The phenomenon of armed struggle, however, presented a threat not only to the Israeli military system but also to the reactionary Arab regimes which sought to contain and destroy the Palestinian resistance movement. Thus, in September 1970, King Hussein of Jordan embarked on a massacre against the Palestinian refugees and freedom fighters during which tens of thousands were murdered. The next step was to crush and destroy the Palestinian resistance movement in Lebanon, first in May 1973 and later in April 1975. Letters guidelines A T. John Stott The events in Lebanon constituted a decisive phase of the overall scheme carefully planned by U.S. imperialism and endorsed by its local lackeys. The lesson that Palestinian fighters learned from the 1970 massacre in Jordan was to establish close links with the local nationalists and leftists, and it was clear from the very start that the reactionaries had failed to achieve the goal they had set for themselves. The Syrian intervention in Lebanon had failed to crush the Palestinian military resistance, even as Sadat is now selling out the Palestinian rights in order to have a peace settlement 7 with Israel on geographical lines.
