It was speculated that Dr. Haws, who submitted his resignation to the board after serving 14 years in the top position, would be appointed as the transportation-maintenanc- e officer in the school district. Dr. Haws has been receiving 75 percent of his current salary from the state since he was acting as the transportation officer. The balance, 25 percent, came from state administrative funds. With the appointment to the junior high school position, the load of transportation will fall on the shoulders of David Morrell. However, the evaluation of the district office is due and will be completed by a team from the state office. On another subject, Chase acknowledged that a Brigham City group has made an appointment to talk with the commission about possible county operation of the library system. Four or five years ago the county offered to take over the Brigham City library but was turned down. "Naturally, we took that (the library) from our priority list, ... it isn't on our list at the present time," Chase said. The commission also said the county could not consider taking over only one of the three libraries. "If we were to take a look at it, we would have to look at it on a complete county-wid- e basis," he added. In other action, commissioners referred a request by LoAnna Richins, who leases the MacFarlane grocery store in Riverside, for a beer license to the county clerk.
