Show THE LEADER-GARLAN- TIMES, July D 8, 1976, Page 7 VJFMJWMMWM love Chairmen Thy monton Planning Board each year. Chairmen for this year's event are Mr. and Mrs. Ron Borcherding, 582 No., 1st East. The annual affair, held at North Park, includes a variety of concessions and "Love thy neighbor" seems to be the motto used by this week's "Good Cook." Mrs. LaVeda (Dick) Rock of Tremonton commented, "My whole life lies in doing things for people." This fact is very evident in and around the Rock neighborhood located at 506 South Tremont. "I love my neighbors," said Mrs. Rock. The neighbors will attest to this. It isn't unusual for LaVeda to make a batch of eight dozen cinnamon rolls in the afternoon and to be left with less than a dozen in the evening time. And then there was the lime, when Mrs. Rock made 50 pairs of hot pads, only to end up with one pair for herself. Another herculea task, Mrs. Rock has taken upon herself is that of making afaghans for her 13 grandchildren. When asked about her hobby of cooking, Mrs. Rock said that it has always been her life and she does it because she likes it and especially because she can share it. Mrs. Rock says her neighbors and friends are welcome to "anything that she has." She is, constantly traipsing the surrounding area with large plates filled with rolls, or nutbread or even a big kettle of steaming hot soup. "I have the best neighborhood in the world. If anyone has any problems, everyone helps. Everybody helps everybody." This is exactly how Mrs. Rock reacted when asked to give a good reason for her . good deeds. "All my life I've cooked," she said when asked to recall some early cooking experiences. Mrs. Rock reminices about standing on a chair making bread, when she was so young and so small that she couldn't reach the cupboard top. Mrs. Rock was the fourth of 18 children in the Spencer family. Actually, she was the oldest girl, due to the deaths of her older brother and sister. This left her with lots of opportunities to do the cooking. "I could and perhaps should have opened a bakeshop, but I never got the time," she said. Mrs. Rock further commented that hobbies and pasttimes such as sewing, crocheting, cooking, gardening, working and camping take up her time and keep her Nine area Cub Scouts are needed to participate in a flag ceremony during an open house for the new Bear LaVeda said that she married a hardworking man. Her husband Dick worked for Box Elder county for 38 years, the longest anyone has ever worked for the county. He served as a patrol operator for 30 years and a road supervisor for the remainder of his term. According to the Rocks, keeping busy is what keeps you going. You can keep busy by trying a few of these recipes, specialties of Mrs. Laeda Rock. The Rocks are the parents of four children, Mrs. Neil (Ranae) Anderson of Renton, Washington; Devere Rock of Garland, Richard Dean Rock of Tremonton and Carol Ann Dudman of Ogden. "We have a lot of fun with our children and our grandchildren," she commented.
