Show Pge I, THE LEADED ARLAND My t, Wl TIMES, Through no fault of the state legislature or anyone else for that matter, occasionalstate holiday-fal- ls on a ly July Saturday. And that unfortunate eovmepjcap 24-t-- as much as the 24th is on a Saturday "we better forget it." a J problem County Commissioners Tuesday would just as soon not have had to deal with. The problem is that some employes in the county road department think they ought to get Friday off because they heard that the state highway department will have the day off. i Commissioners talked about the problem at length then decided to wait a while before making a decision. Clerk K.B. Olsen said "it isn't provided for in the statutes." State law gives employes the following Monday off when a holiday falls on a Sunday but makes no provisions for Saturday a day on which county employees are already off. Commissioner Ted Burt said he thinks in . Said commissioner Reed Nielsen, "I think we better stick by the law." Commissioner Don Chase said he'd like to find out more about the issue to see whether it is a "general trend" in the state to give employes the Friday off. He noted that, if granted, the holiday would have to be given to all county employes. On another matter, commissioners agreed to purchase a Case 680E tractor with front end loader and backhoe from Jones Eqt. Inc. of Tremonton. Jones submitted the low bid of $29,638 from among four bidders. Commissioner Burt said the tractor will be used in the road department. It will be purchased from federal Revenue Sharing funds which become available in October. Burt noted that one lower bid was received for a smaller unit which was rejected.
