Rugby, a combination of soccer and football, originated in the 19th century at the Rugby boys school in It is today an inEngland. ternational sport, with com- petition watched almost as keenly abroad as soccer. Until recently dominated by the British Empire, rugby has come into its own in the United States during the past several years. With fifteen men on a side, the game is played with a "fat" football, which may be carried or kicked forward, or passed to the side while running. Since every man can carry the ball, and since there are no timeouts or play stoppages, rugby than is more fast-movi- ng I Bw American football. Rugby combines the m star, ooo con- tinuous running and foot agility of soccer with the con- tact and exciting running plays of football. Furthermore, it is a sport in which the average adult can participate, since fifteen players are Involved, and since skill and endurance are more im- portant than size or weight. Brlgham City will sponsor its own team in the tournament, and encourages men from Tremonton and Logan to Participate. The Brlgham team is coached by Dave Congleton, a former halfback for the California Unicorns, and works out at the Box Elder high school every Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The only prerequisites are the desire to keep fit and a competitive spirit C : i S Rugby league season runs from September 15 through December 5, so there's still time to get involved.
