Meat- s; Cut Just The Way You Want At For the 45th time in as manv years the heonle of Garland and their surround ine neighbors will meet to celebrate what has popularly become known as Wheat and Beet Days It was 45 years ago in 1929 when a group of Garland residents gathered together to dance celebrating the completion of a 250.000 bushel farmer-ownewheat warehouse completed to accomodate the thriving wheat industry in the valley. d IN 1930 another large warehouse was built bringing Garland 600,000 bushels of storage space. Today Garland sports one of the largest grain warehouses in the West. A second dance held to commemorate the completion of the second warehouse established the tradition that has carried on through today with a variety of additions. Both of the dances were so successful that the local Lion's club decided to sponsor a full day of celebration with a meeting in the stake tabernacle and a rodeo to fill out the program. The celebration became so popular that LDS President Heber .J. Grant was guest one year. TIIK CKI F.BRATION gradually expanded to include a miniature parade and a rodeo at the location where the city's Softball park stands today. The rodeo was eventually excluded when Our Retail The expense forced the Lion's club to turn the celebration over to the citv with the local ladies club helping out The ladies club later added another facet to the celebration a Miss Wheat and Beet Days queen pageant. While the wheat storage capacity of the small town was the impetus for the start of the celebration its beet industry is honored annually as weli. In 1902 the Utah Sugar Company began building the beet industry locally by raising beets in the county and shipping them to Lehi to be processed. IN 1903 they built the Garland sugar factory at a total cost of $1 million. The factory's original daily capacity of 850 tons was later increased by enlarging the 2.500 The completion of the Bear River canal system about the same time as the factory at a cost of $2.5 million insured that Garland would be the center of a thriving agricultural area. scheduled to begin at 7:30 pm. with women's softball games The evening will be tonoed off with a spectacular ' orks displav beginning a 30 pageant 5:30 p m and hike p.m A family pm tun races at fi A TIIK MISS WIIKAT and Beet Days celebration gets underway at 7:30pm. in the auditorium of Bear River "NEEDS INSURANCE DON'T LET YOUR FAMILY Bali Games TOO!
