Show Page 6, THE Local fishermen, back from a nkeekend in Idaho, get to try their hand on their own much maligned stale fishing streams Saturday hen the season opens at dawn. Following is the fishing forecasts for northern Utah and other selected spots as prepared by field men of the Division of Wildlife ReIncluded is insources. formation on access, type and size of Csh available, fishing potential camping sites and outlook for the season: A good to excellent opening is expected for the North-e- m Region on all major imespecially poundments, Pine view and East Canyon. All of the rivers and smaller streams will be high and roily and will be stocked only if water levels recede before the opening. Creek - This Heaver stream in Summit County will be heavily stocked with catchable rainbow prior to the opening, and the creel might include a healthy brown trout. Anglers should be aware that the lower section runs through private land, and future access depends upon the good judgement and conduct while on and off the stream. Heaver Creek - This Weber County stream will be high for tlie opening but will be stocked with catchables. After the opening, anglers using a variety of baits should be able to pick up near limits of rainbow with an occasional cutthroat. Birch Creek Reservoir -This reservoir is full, but fishing on the opening is expected to be from good to excellent with catches of rainbow and native cutthroat ranging in size from 10 to 14 inches. Fishing success the summer throughout should continue to be from Rood to excellent. Hlacksmith Fork River -This river will be high for the opening but is usually pretty clear. It is the Northern Region's "Wild Trout" stream and is hatchery stocked only in the two impoundments. The upper portion of the river is classed as a qua'ity section. The only method of angling permitted on this section is artificial lures with a creel. Possession limit is six trout This is an excellent stream during the entire season for the angler who likes solitude, quality and aesthetic beauty in angling on a "Wild Trout" stream. Box Elder Creek - It is anticipated that this small stream will be planted with catchables about one week before tlie opening. This stream does not attract too much pressure after the opening weekend and does produce some good fishing for German browns throughout the season. Browns ranging in size upwards of two pounds are common in the fall of the year. GARLAND TIMES, May 30, 1974 LEADER-TH- E Causey Reservoir - The reservoir is full andexpect-e- d to be quite muddy for the opening. Fishing is expect ed to be rather slow on opening and for the remainder of the year. Occasional hot spots will yield the persistent angler a combination of rainbow, brown, cutthroat and brook trout ranging from three fourths to five pounds. There are limited camping facilities and no boat launching site at this reservoir. Chalk Creek - This stream will have poor fishing for the opening, mainly because of high water conditions. As the summer progresses, fishing should pick up for cutthroats and planted All of the area rainbows. is under private ownership, and permission must be obtained prior to fishing. The main complaint landowners have is that most anglers in the past left the stream banks strewn with trash. East Canyon Creek - This water is expected to remain at flood stage condition for the opening. When runoff waters recede and for the remainder ofthe season, this stream will offer a great challenge to the angler who likes to outsmart large natives and brown trout. Heavy stream bank cover makei fishing a real challenge, but for those with the right skills, the reward is a stringer of nice fish. Access to most of the creek is through pri vate property, and anglers land- are advised to contact owners for permission prior to the opening. East Canyon Reservoir -Anglers can expect an exir. cellent opening at this Preseason studies by Division personnel indicate that lots of 11 to 12 inch rainbow and cutthroat trout will be available for boat and shore fishermen. Boat fishermen also have the possibility of catching 11 to 12 inch kokanee salmon in addition to the other trout species. Modern camping, picnicking, and boating facilities are available at Fast Canyon State Park on the north end of the reservoir. East Fork Little Bear -This stream is expected to be a little high, but still fishable for the opening. Camping and access are limited, but wise couteous anglers who seek landowner permission will fill their creel on the opening with catchable rainbows. During late summer and early fall, this stream produces excellent catches of pound size and better brown trout. Echo Reservoir - Fishing on this body of water on tlie opening and for the remainder of tlie season is exacted only to be fair. However, the persistent angler who wants to fill his creel on tlie opening should fish near the inlet along the river bridge. This reservoir is also known to yield lunker (up to five pounds) brown trout throughout the season. Etna Reservoir - Expect to have very poor opening and general season on this res-evo- reserovir. The Division will not plant any fish. Fishing, and general trescamping pass is by express permission only. Creek and Farmington Pond - For the "energy cris- is" minded angler, this stream pond should provide gwd angling for fishermen who do not want to travel great distances from Salt Lake City area Both the on tlie opening. stream and pond will be stocked for opening weekend and periodically throughout the year. Breathtaking scenery and an occasional brook or cutthroat will also add enjoyment for a backyard fishing trip. Hyrum Reservoir - This body of water should produce a fair catch of pound size rainbows for the angler on Boat weekend. opening launching, camping, water and sanitation facilites are available at the State Park. Anglers who like to mis it up and elbow to plbow will find plenty of action in the spill bowl just below the small and dam. Left Hand Fork - This is one of Cache County's most popular streams for tlie opening and throughout the season because of the easy access to the stream and ex- cellent camping sites. Opening day anglers should expect excellent rainbow fishing, with a brook or cutthroat thrown in to add a little spice a good bet for the entire season. Logan River - Success on this river for tlie opening is expected to be very poor, but watch out when the high water is gone catches of rainbow, cutthroat, brown and an occasional brook will brighten tlie smile of all anglers on this popular water. The impoundments will be stocked, and an extra bonus of four to six pound rainbow may surprise many a fisherman the first time out this year. Lost Creek Reservoir -This reservoir isexpected to provide fair fishing for 10 to 12 pound rainbow and cutthroat on the opening weekend and throughout the season. An increased stocking quota of fingerlings Is expected to improve opening weekend catches. Anglers and campers are reminded that no services, including drinking water, camping sites and facilities, are available at this reservoir. Lost Creek - This stream Is expected to provide good angling for the opener. If the reservoir above the creek spills, anglers canexpect excellent catches of cutthroat immediately below the dam. Access to Lost Creek is limited, and anglers must secure permission before V- - 1' Afcbi-j- - Heading up the Future Homemakers of America club at Bear River next year will be 0 to r) front: Peggy Nishiguchi. secretary; Cynthia Petersen, president; Connie Rudd, service chairman; back: Janet Allen, vp; Julie Gibbs, recreation chairman; JoLene Rudd. degree chairman; Alison Scoffield. song leader.
