The simply fact is that there isnt one. COUNCILMAN Day noted that citizens in the south side of town are becoming increasingly critical because of the fact last year, we quest- ioned some school board officials (after the fact, admittedly) about the advisability of the city trading away the only park on the south side of town to construct a school. We were informed at that time by the same school board officials that the kids would be allowed to use the school grounds and that the park would actually be in better condition than WELL, THE kids are allowed to use THE "nation's Democrats sporting a '"4- "record thus far in the election column it's awfu! tempting to predict a Republican tailspin when November rolls around and the voters go to the polls enmasse. -0 the grounds, all right. But the city was asked to remove the existing playground equipment because the school district did not want the liability which goes with kids playing on playground equipment THE CITY Council last week discussed the possibility of locating the playground equipment on the grounds of the Community Center (old school). Because of the price of land and the city's limited budget this is probably the only move open to the present city council. Mc-Kin- ley BUT IN THE future, we hope, the city council will actively search for the means and the funds to create a park on the south side of town. And should any more offers come up to trade centrally located park property, we hope the city council will consider the results. following a recent special election in which the Republican lost noting that many of the people who voted Democratic actually felt the Republican candidate was more qualified. "I think the people are going to make a great mistake losses are, natas a widheralded urally, being espread voter reaction against the sins of Watergate. But are they? The Republican side is quick to point out following the last special election, that the Grand Old Party candidate would have lost even farther had not the President campaigned for him. THE REPUBLICAN if they blindly vote Democratic cause of Watergate." WE WOULD have to agree be- whol- eheartedly with that statement The strength of America lies, as Mr. Garn pointed out in the strength of ty its system. If one party is allowed to install a "veto proof congress the results would be untwo-par- savory. PENALIZING young congressional hopefuls simply because they happen to belong to the same political party currently struggling with the Watergate stink is like throwing out the baby with the bath water. MR. GARN noted that he felt the THE MIND of the American voter is difficult thing to comprehend. For instance, Salt Lake City Mayor Jake Garn himself a Republican candidate for Senator from Utah cited a poll basic issue in the November election will not be inflation, foreign policy or even Watergate...but simply who is best qualified. 7r mining bourse For Parentis Se0 Community Education is perhaps, the most viable concept in America today. It is the one area where the needs and wishes of the citizens of the Community can be heard and Immediate action can be taken to meet those needs. While discussing family needs with parents the most frequently stated concern is, "we have never had any real training on how to be parents." This need is a real one and may well be the most important single program that could be offered. We all recognize that the most important commodity we have is our children and we further recognize that the future of our Country and the World lies in the hands of our children. Therefore, it is imperative that we as parents be well prepared before we take on this most important responAll to often parsibility. enthood is that which they have casually observed in their homes. In response to this expressed need, a few of us in Community Education expressed our concerns to Dr. Avard Rigby and Dr. Brent Gubler, in the State Department of Education, and they in turn responded by preparing the Qnest short course that we have ever seen in parent training. Parents, Teachers, Church Leaders, Doctors and Child Development Specialists were called in to meetings to discuss and evaluate the various techniques of child rearing. From these and subsequent evaluative meetings an eight lesson course evolved called "Parents and The Developing Child." Lesson topics for the lesson course are: 1. Children are Individuals 2. Growth, maturation and learning 3. Stages of Development 4. Middle years and le .scenes 5. Fostering communications 6. Family Discipline 7. Social Development 8. Theory into Action These lessons consist of a short film strip presentation followed by directed discussion. Several organizations in the County have reviewed "Parents and the Developing Child" and all give it their enthusiastic support.
