While at the fair they attended the performance of on fW III -- Poc-atte- Students Every Finalist will be considered for one of. the 1,000 National Merit $1000 Scholarships that are allocated on a state basis, according to each state's percentage of the total U.S. high school graduating class. A selection committee made up of experienced college ry admissions officers and school guidance counselors-judges all information about each Finalist in combinationhis high school academic record, accomplishments, leadership qualities, extracurricular activities, as well as test scores. The winners of these one-tiawards of $1000 that are financed by sponsors and'NMSC will receive a single payment next fall, after they enroll as full-ticollege undergraduates. Many of the Finalists will also be considered for renewable four-ye- ar Merit Scholarships supported by some 450 corporations, foundations, pro- -, colfessional associations, leges, unions, trusts, and individuals. Winners of renewable Merit Scholarships receive up to $1,500 per year which can amount to $6, 000 over the four college years. NMSC will release the names of the Merit Scholarship winners in 1974 through the news media in three public announcements: winners of standard four-ye- ar Merit Scholarships financed primarily by corporations and businesses will be announced on April 11; the winners of one-tiNational Merit $1000 Scholarships will be named on April 25; and the announcement of College-sponsorfour-ye- ar Merit Scholarship winners will occur on May an acute concussion.
