Myrtle Anderson was in Lay-tspending some time with her daughter Dorene Bateman and family. With Mrs. Anderson were Mi.. Peg Pandk and Mrs. Pauline Hovermyer from upper state New York. These ladies have been staying with Vesta on Jensen. Last week the four ladies took a week long trip to see the west. They toured Yellowstone Park where they were especially pleased to see the wild animals native to the park. Elk, moose, buffalo, deer, antelope, and especilly a mother bear and her two cubs. They visited Mt. Rushmore to see the faces of the presidents, Custer's Last Stand battleground, the museum at Cody Wyoming, the Passion Play in Spearfish S. Dakota, Devils Tower in N. E. Wyoming. They covered a lot of miles and had an enjoyable time. Last Thursday the wind storm we had played havoc with the hay shed at the Alvin (Bud) Anderson place. The wind was strong enough to put up the roof and deposit it in the neighbors trees and to move the cement pillars right out of the ground. The Anderson family took a weekend trip to Clearcreek with their daughter Teresa and her friend Terri Hansen. They also spent some time on Sunday with Mrs. Anderson's father, Wesley Ward, in Almo, Idaho. While they were there they were caught in a snow storm. Mrs. Glen Jones of Colorado is spending a few days with his daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Carter Iverson and Rex. Mr. Jones has been put to work helping with the remodeling the Iversons home. Karen and Curtis Christensen were Sundaydinnerguestsatthe home of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Christensen. The Golden Spike chapter of the Young Homemakers of America has been holding a drapery class this week at the school house. Twelve ladies have been participating from 9 to 5 to learn the fundamentals of making beautiful draperies. Bessie Christensen has been in charge of the event and Mrs. Mable Yourt of Brigham has been the instructor. Sunday morning in church there was a special program honoring the fathers of the ward. A carnation for the buttonhole was presented to each father at the end of the program. Good old David Weidman is still pulling in the honors and awards. This last weekend he attended the American Academy of Achievements 12th annual Salute to Excellence in Chicago. He was presented with the Golden Scroll award from Mr. Zen-nC. R. Hansen the chairman of Mack Trucks Incorporated, who were the sponsors of the all expense paid trip. Mr. Weidman picked David up at the airport Sunday night and David reports it was a most rewarding andgratifyingexper-ienc- e. on Mr. and Mrs. Reed Munns drove to Moscow, Idaho to bring their daughter Marilyn home from school at the University to spend the summer vacation with them. m' a 5 a 5 a a a a Nola Christensen and Carrie Christensen spent Friday with Floy and her family in Ogden. Mrs. Lula Clayson spent two days in Brigham with Maxine Adamson and her family. The Vay Jensen family had a houseful of family members Sunday to help celebrate Father's Day. Rosealee and son Terry Thaine were among the group, also Floyd and Elaine Jensen and baby, Jean Jensen and girls, Church and Mary Ellen Greene and their children. Seth Jensen is in Ohio taking a management training course spondored by Hill Air Force base where he is employed. He will return some time this week. Mr. and Mrs. Vidmar Clay-s- on were weekend guests of Mrs. Lula Clayson. They are from Pocatello. Roelene Jackson of North Og-d- en has been spending the week with Margo Checketts. Friday and Saturday Mario and Melba Checketts and Margo Checketts, Julie Adamson, and Roelene Jackson visited with the Sidney Checketts family in Mid-va- le. Mrs. Lula Clayson helped her sister Erma Grettam celebrate her 80th birthday (Mrs. Grettam's) in Salt Lake Saturday night Pat Hamilton of Salt Lake came up to spend Father's Day at the home of her parents Mr. and Mrs. Rasmus Christensen. Ronda Ann Silva of Brigham came up to do some special cake and cooky baking for her father er's Boyd Hawkes Day. for Fath- Corwin Hess of Garland is spending the week with Blair Hawkes helping him do some yard work. Brian, JackL Casey, Jill Christensen of Hyde Park spent the week with the grandparents, the Chester Christensen. Dallas Christensen has been spending a week with his mother Carrie A. Christensen while he Is taking some classes at the University In Logan. Sunday Mrs. Christensen had her daughters LoaMae Eledrege and daughter Christ! of Ogden and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Roberts of Salt Lake and their family. 3 1 IT" SM f it J "Let's Talk Turkey" will be the subject of a demonstration sponsored by Box Elder County Nutrition Education Committee given on Friday, June 29. Dr. Vaughan T. Mendenhall of the Nutrition and Food Science Department of Utah State University will discuss all the new things being done with turkey. The demonstration will be conducted at 10 a.m. in the Bear River Valley Senior Center, Old McKinley school, 100 S. Tremont and at 2:30 p.m. in the Community Center, 24 N 3rd West, Brigham City. 4- -H pictured. Forty eight participants from South Stake were in Salt Lake Thursday, Friday and Saturday to join in the Church Dance Festival which was held in the Rice Stadium at the University of Utah. The total number of dancers in the extravaganza was 5,800 from the Utah, Idaho region. There were some dancers who had been invited to participate from the Las Vegas area. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Anderson were in charge of the young people from Bear River South Stake who performed in the "Cinnamon Swing" and the "Square Dance." Mr. and Mrs. Keith Bar-fu- ss were in charge ofthe "All Girls' Dance" and Mr. and Mrs. Merlin Larson supervised the adults who danced the "Samba" and the "Cha Cha." The participants and their chaperones spent the three days in Salt Lake. A full dress rehearsal was held on Thursday and the performances were on Friday and Saturday nights. Boulton's By COOL COOKIES The Cool Cookies had a bake sale on Monday June 25. They held it at Safeways. Mrs. Cutler was in charge and five of the girls helped her. It began at 2 p.m. and went until 4 p.m They sold such things as sweet rolls, cupcakes and popcorn. They had a real good turn out and brought in $9.00 for their club. Varge Christensen and family of Sylmar California spent a few days with Carrie J. Christensen. They came in to attend the funeral of Mrs. Christ-ense-ns father in Idaho. Nola Nessler took a 10 day vacation and spent the time with her daughter Dandra Lewis and family in California. Asenth Davis is coming home this week rfter a stay in the Cooley Memorial hospital for major surgery. Ourbestwishes go to her for a speedy recovery. Rita and Ike Anderson give glowing reports of a recent trip they took to Northern Idaho. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Moon called the Anderson's andinvitedthem to go salmon fishing. They visited Riggins where the salmon hatcheries are located. There they learned how the hatcheries are operated and also the history of salmon fishing in the west. They toured the areas of McCall, Payette and Claim they must be Weiser. farmers at heart because the wild flowers, crops and scenery were the most interesting part of the trip.
