Gentry, Brigham Cily, chairman, the Box Elder chapter of the American Red Cross has started on their Christmas project of making ditty bags for servicemen in Vietnam. The bags, made of sturdy cloth, will each contain at least six useful flashitems, from lights to mailing size voice tapes, from nail clippers to address books. The people of Bear River Valley are being invited to participate in this project Small and useful items may be donated; money ortime given. Bags will need to be made, filled and addressed and Mrs. Gentry says that all volunteers will be welcomed. A small tag will be sewn on the inside of each bag stating the name of the persons or organizations who donated the items. According to State Patrolman Jack Pendleton, Lynn was following the semi up the grade one mile west of Beaver Dam, headed east when he looked behind him to check other traffic and failed to realize how close he was to the truck. He ran into the back of the trailer and received a laceration over his left eye and chest bruises. The Wright car was considered total loss while an estimated $250 damage was done to the semi trailer. Prior to the events, a short program was held during which guests to the field day activities were introduced. They included Amy Kearsley, Home Economics leader. The judges Mrs. Jessie Eller and Amy Kearsley, awarded first place ribbons to an three girls. The Little Chefs displayed their cooking. The five Mar Lyn Kunzler, Susan Kunzler. Denise Hirschi, Sylvia Morris and Brenda Morris, were judged on their products with Mar Lyn and Susan taking first place and the remaining three receiving second place. Keith Anderson and Verm Tracy from Malta judged the livestock competition. Bonnie Carter, Jay Carter, Jackie Hirschi and Denise Hirschi all received first place ribbons for their turkey project Kirk Thompson received a red ribbon for bis fat lamb. Winners of the junior fat calves fitting and showmanship contest were Del Dee Kunzler, Junior Grand Champion and Alan Kunzler, Junior Reserve Champion. They were awarded trophies donated by Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Mae of the Valley Livestock Commission of Rupert The senior fat calves fitting and showmanship contest was won by Mary Carter, Senior Grand Champion, and Blaine Tanner, Senior Reserve Grand Champion. They were also awarded trophies donated by the Mays. Laralne Tanner, Marilyn Kunzler and Brent Rose received first place ribbons. After a lunch supplied under the supervision of Norlnr Car ter, the tractor driving contest was held with Lynn Palmer taking first and Bryan Morris and Layns Palmer tie-l- ng for second place.
