Bracken Lee has declared October 25 through November 3 as "Utah Symphony Week." Beet Growers Due Final Payment For 1953 Crops Sugar beet growers of Gar. land factory district will receive in the next few days $73,440.00 as final payment for beets grown in 1953, according to Mr. Ford T. Scalley, District Manager of Utah-IdahSugar Company. Checks will be mailed this week to 616 growers of this area. This will bring total payments for the 1953 crop to $1,678,169.00. Total payments for all beets grown for Sugar Company and its whclly-owneGunnison Sugar, subsidiary, in seven mountain in 1953 Inc., states was $17,864,000.00. This year's settlement is made as provided by the beet contract on the basis of the net return for sugar sales and the sugar content of the beets. Final payment this year is made at the rate of $.59 per ton of beets. The total payments for 1953 beets were at the rate of $13.59 per ton. This year's total includes direct company payments of $11.24 pr ton and pay. ments made by the Government from funds collected from refiners and beet processors under the Sugar Act of 1948 of $2.35 o The orchestra is now rehearsing under Conductor Maurice Abravanel, who is back for his eighth straight season. The symphony will make the longest tour in history, covering "all parts of the state," accord-ig- n to Maestro Abravanel. The tour is being completed now and will be announced shortly. "Concerts will be played where ever community interest is sufficient to pay the expenses of bringing the orchestra," according to David S. Romney, managing director. Utah-Idah- o per ton. These items are carefully checked to determine if all possible sources of contamination have been eliminated. Some of the older systems, particularly, have spring boxes and reservoir covers which would alkw runoff water and other contamination to enter the water supply. A written report covering a description of the system together with recommendations for improvement is sent to the mayor and city council follow-ineach survey.
