First Baptist Church (220 East Center St.) will be having a Christmas Eve Candle Light Service on Friday, December 24th from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The service will involve special music, the congregation singing traditional Christmas hymns, the reading of the Christmas story from the Bible as well as some other presentations. The team won at both Oklahoma Panhandle State University (OPSU) in Goodwell, Okla. and at West Texas A&M University (WTAMU) in Canyon, Texas. The sophomore team was high team overall winning in beef, swine, sheep and reasons at both contests. "I am very pleased with this team's strong performance in swine and in the reasons room," says Kelly Burch, coach. Individually, the team was led by "strongman" Russell Tomlinson (Vernal, Utah) who took fourth in sheep, second in hogs, first in both cattle and reasons, and high individual overall at OPSU. At WTAMU, Tomlinson placed fourth in reasons and eighth overall.. Team member Skyier Jarman (Ellensberg, Wash.) placed fifth in sheep, third in swine, second in cattle, reasons, and overall at OPSU, while taking sixth in reasons, first in swine and sixth overall. Burch's "workhorse" Brandon Kuenning (Imperial, Neb.) also did well at OPSU with a fifth in reasons and hogs, fourth in cattle, first in sheep and third overall. Laramie Wigington (Pavillion) placed ninth in reasons, eighth in cattle, seventh in sheep and 10th overall at OPSU, while at WTAMU he took fifth in reasons and fourth overall. Roy Lambert (Chadron, Neb.) placed third in beef at OPSU and 10th in reasons, fourth jn cattle and second in swine at WTAMU. The lone female on the team, Ash lay Swack (Fort Morgan, Colo.), placed seventh in reasons and first in swine at OPSU. Burch's freshman team also did well at the OPSU meet as first timer Sidney Thayne (Altamont, Utah) took 10th in swine, fifth in sheep and seventh overall. Jeff Berry (Cheyenne) had an impressive day and placed 10th in reasons, ninth in both sheep and cattle, first in swine and tied for first, which left him second overall. Greg Addleman (Douglas) placed eighth in swine and tied for 10th in sheep, while Megan Gooch (Hugoton, Kan.) scored a ninth place overall finish. "At OPSU the freshman team was fifth in reasons, fourtn in cat tle, first in both sheep and swine and third overall by a measly four points," says Burch. "The sophomore team still had a fsw mental errors in placing, but they are improving greatly in reasons which is very important for the students' participation in upcoming national contests in Phoenix and Denver," he says. The sophomore team plans to travel to the Express Cattle Judging Contest in Ukon, Okla. prior to Christmas before taking a short break for the holiday, says Burch.
