Show IRA HEARN NAMED TO VACATED POST ATKENNECOTT Ira K. Hearn, Jr., has been appointed ap-pointed assistant general manager man-ager of the Utah Copper Division Divis-ion of Kennecott Copper Corp., it was announced today by F. C. Green, general manager. 'Formerly chief industrial engineer en-gineer of tlhe company's Western (Mining Divisions, he succeeds Mir. Green, who was promoted to general manager on Monday. Mr. He-am was bom in Norfolk, Virginia, and is a 'graduate cf the Virginia . Polytechnic Institute where he received his B.S. degree de-gree in mining engineering. After he waa graduated, he became affiliated with tlhe Tennessee Coal and Iron Division of United States Steel Co. as junior engineer. engi-neer. He advanced through the positions of section foieman, assistant mine foreman, mine industrial) in-dustrial) engineer, assistant chief operationa engineer and as engineer en-gineer 'in change of experimental miming and mechanization before entering t'h armed services in August, 1941. He served with tlhe Corps of Engineers in the South Pacific theater, ibeing discharged with the rank of colonel in 1946. He returned to the Tennessee Coal and Iron division as chief operations oper-ations engineer for its ore mines and quarries where he remained until early in 1949 when he was appointed assistant to the president presi-dent of the Quebec Iron and Titanium Ti-tanium Corp., a joint Kennecott-New Kennecott-New Jersey Zinc subsidiary with head'quarte'rs in New York City. iMr. Hearn was next named assistant to Charles R. Cox, Ken-necctt's Ken-necctt's president, and cintinucd in that position until his appointment appoint-ment as cllitief industrial engineer of the company's Western mining min-ing divisions. He is a pioneer in the industrial indus-trial engineering field in the non-ferrous non-ferrous mining industry and also has 'been active in the advance managtimtin't field of the industry. indus-try. He is immediate past president presi-dent of the Great Salt Lake Chapter of the American Institute Insti-tute of Industrial Engineers and was instrumental in the formation forma-tion of the annual seminars of the Utah group. Mr. Hearn married the former Jane Keasler in New York. They reside at 740 Sunset Avenue w ith their son, (Maxwell ((Mike) Hearn. In addition to his affiliation with the American Institute of Industrial Engineers, IMr. Hearn is a member of the Fort Douglas Club and the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Pe-troleum Engineers. |
