Mathews BPW Forest Tour Tressa Black Mathews, 78, died of natural causes August 18, 1967, in the Cedar City Hospital. Mrs. Mathews was born in Kanosh and married Melvin Mathews in 1910 They made their homs in Beaver for many years before moving to Cedar City. They were the parents of Donald M., John F Mrs. Dan-ta- n (Bernice) Henrie, Cedar City; Clark G., Orem; Howard R., Thousand Oaks, Calif; Mrs. Ward (Bonnie) Perry, Salt Lake City; 31' grandchildren, 21 Funeral services were held Monday in Cedar City. Burial was in the Cedar Cemetery. Members of the Beaver BPW had a very enjoyable day last Thursday, August 17th, when the Foest Service, under the direction of Forest Ranger Boyd Carpenter and Assistant Ranger Dale B Harris.furnish-th- e transportation for a very interesting and informative tour of the Beaver Mountains. Our first stop was at the warehouse where Mr. Harris showed a film and explained how, with a helicopter, the Forest crew sprayed the land to rid it of sage brush and noxious weeds so it could be planted to the many better grasses to improve grazing for cattle, etc. Our next stop was at the Little Cottonwood Camp, ground area, the only modern camp area in the district with flush toilets and other modern facilities. Ranger Carpenter explained the development & why a fee was charged. We visited beautiful Park where there were many new improvements including flood lights at the tables, cement for volley ball, and other entertainments, even dancing, with outlets for music and loudspeakers. Several of the large Cottonwood trees have been cut down to make the place safer. Lately, each time the crew cleaned up, they found branches had fallen, some with enough force to break boards in the tables. Three Creeks, our next stop, was explained by Ranger Carpenter including the requirement of keeping the wafter level down to 1500 acre feet so that in case of heavy rains no damage would occure to the Dam structure. We enjoyed our lunch at Timid Springs after which we went to the timber sale area and saw the large truck ownsd by the Kiabab and Crofts lumber company loading timber to take to the mill in Panguitch All the branches and other waste are burned and new seedlings planted. We then went to the Circle-vill- e rehabilitation allotment where the brush has been railed and the different grasses have been planted with a fine stand of crested wheat, intermediate and other wheat grass We stopped at the Anderson Meadow campground where all the camps were very clean.
