The dinner was especially enjoyable, not only because Rachel and Rulon are fine hosts, and Rachel is an especially good cook, but for two other reasons also. One, the dinner was held following Sunday School and everyone was in their Sunday best and hungry, and because Mr. and Mrs. Earl Hayward of Ely, Nevada, were present for the occasion. Also present were: Mr. and Mrs Thurman Eyre, Mr. and Mrs. Hilton Gillins, Mr. and Mrs. Ty Gillins, Mrs. Mary Gillins, and Mr. and Mrs. Heber Gillins. Firmage announce the approaching marriage of thsir daughter Colleen to Mr. Nicholas R. Dotson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ruben Dotson of Minersville. The couple are planning a March 28th wedding in the St. George LDS Tsmple. They will be honored at a reception that evening in the Baaver National Guard Armory. Both are graduates of Beaver High School. Miss Firmage has been attending Brigham Young' University. Mr. Dotson is a recent graudate of Weltech College in Salt Lake. The couple will make their home in Salt Lake where they both plan to attend the Univer... sity of Utah. . .. CA On a recent trip to Las Vegas while visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Andy Bohn, the talk got around to baseball. Couldn't help but wish it had been mentioned in the Minersville History book after listening to Heber, Gold Eyre and Andy laugh over some of their excursions. Some of the names that cropped up were: Max Gres sman, Roycheck, Claude Horton Bill Carter, Clinton and Earl Thompson, Clyde Hollingshead. Mr. Issacsen, and Ty and Heber, Flyod Wood, Thurman Eyre, Obra and Victor Myers and Newell Marshall who made a heroic rescue of a couple stranded in an old dry wash that was filled with water from a cloudburst near Little Arizona. Managers through these years were: Stan McKnight, Andy Bohn and Truman Bradfield. Anyway, I was telling' the story to Rulon Eyre and he informed' me that the real old baseball team included such names as Sim Murdock, a good pitcher; Jim Rollins, Harv and Gus Fotheringham, Earl Thompson and Tine Doton. These men played in the first field behind the now Harry Thompson home. She was baptized by her father, John Williams, and confirmed by Alton Marshall, a cousin and friend of the Bulk y-- daughter-in-la- Probably the reason I'm writing this news is because these former residents of Minersville, now living in Las Vegas, told me how important news is from home. Mr. and Mrs. Theodore F.vre, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Carter, Mi s. Druella Hall and Heber and I spent three hours visiting at the home of Mr and Mrs Emil Nowers. The American Legion Auxiliary, Unit No. 81, is making a drive for clothing and nylon stockings to be sent to the State Mental Hospital at Provo, Utah. Mrs. Daisy Gillins is president and Mrs. Pauline Wood is chairman. A mutual class, under the direction of Mrs. Aletha Gillins is also helping with the drive. Mr. and Mrs. Harrell Gillins and five children of Kearns, Ut. were down to the funeral services for Mrs. Augusta Marshall, held on Saturday. Mrs. Gillins, Mary Ann, was a girlhood friend to Carla, a daughter of Mrs. Marshall. Jim Eyre and his daughter from Wyoming were present also for the services for Mrs. Marshall. He is an uncle vto Augusta, Gladys, Lola, Clara, Alta and Gold, a brother to their father. The first time I ever saw or heard Mr. Eyre was at the 4th of July Centennial program in Minersville several years ago. At that time he recited "Saint Peter at the Pearly Gates" and I shall never forget it. His wit, wonderful delivery and memory made it so one just couldn't forget He's 96 now and at the Alton Marshall home, following the funeral, at the request of his many relatives, he recited this poem and sang a song. Mr. and Mrs. Delmar Gray spent February 27 in St. George with Ilene's father, I. H. Lamb. The date was her birthday. Winners in the American Legion Auxiliary essay contest "Americanism, My Responsibility," were: Janet Marshall, Lor-ett- a Banks and Debra Gillins. Mrs. Anna Rae Carter was chair man. Judges were Anna Rae, Reva Williams and Emily Gillins. These essays were excellent and the last could have been first, or the first last or the second first or last because they were just that close. Some essays which began in a fine manner just weren't long enough. When the rules state 300 vords at least, that is exactly what they mean. The rules also stated that clippings from magazines could have been a part of the essay. I thought this was very fine. If students could by this rule each year it would be fine in that they would be encouraged to read more and clip more with the essay contest in mind. Too many times, students enter these contests without too much background of what they are writing about. Somehow, the contest leaves much to be desired as far as I am concerned. Now that we are on a literary vein of thought, I'd like to mention the excellent book report given recently by Mrs. Lynnea Marshall at Literary Club. En' titled, "The Last of the Titans, about Madamn Shumann-Heinthe famous singer, this book will long be remembered by those who heard about this remarkable woman, her triumphs and her sorrows. If, when women begin to think their lot is hard, they could read this book, their outlook on life would surely be changed. Thanks again, Lynnea, for a fine biography and thanks to Lucy Williams, our librarian for suggesting it to Lynnea. k, Jut talked to Lillian McKnight She brought Stan, her husband, home from the hospital in Salt Lake this weekend. He is fine although he is yet to lose more of his finger due to the infection incurred in a recent accident. He was leading a horse behind his automobile when the horse pulled away, almost taking the end of the finger. Infection set in, a Tetanus shot was given which caused a reaction. However, there are many factors in the case and Stan was advised to be sure to get another Tetanu, shot in two years. Farmers are especially urged to get these shots since they come in contact with so many germs around corrals and outdoor work. Stan d was sent to Salt Lake by a doctor.
