Program Manager Dennis Gough and the group hope to expand Hill's knowledge of the progress native cultures have made through a series of Hilltop Tunes articles, and a POW WOW Nov. 15 held during American IndianAlaskan Indian heritage month. He grew up in Texas, and after serving 20 years in the Air Force, Gough retired from active duty in 1987. During his Air Force career, he completed tours in Alaska, Southeast Asia and Hill AFB. He now works in the Aircraft Directorate as an aircraft mechanic. Devoting more than 20 percent of his workday to the program manager's job, and not one to be in the spotlight, Gough says the job is a little harder than he expected. "It's a new challenge, but I have good, experienced committee members who offer lots of help and support." Taitano is native Chamorro from Guam. After working for the Navy there, she transferred to Hill about a year ago, and now works as a journeyman water treatment plant operator for the 75th Civil Engineering Squadron. She also works part time for Sears. As if that weren't enough to keep her busy, Taitano is a member of St Rosa of lima and teaches confirmation classes there ,and is involved in the local Guam International Club. Her fellow Guam club members urged her to apply for the Asian AmericanPacific Islander program manager job. "People told me I would be beneficial to the Asian AmericanPacific Islander people," Taitano said. She got the job and, along with the committee, ularly," Gough said.
