Francis Staff Judge Advocate B-2- 6 Vintage law books, including one dating from 1908. were presented to the Air Force's deputy judge advocate general during a July 10 luncheon in the Hill Officers Club. Retired Col. Phillip J. Williamson presented several law books, including a copy of the 1908 Manual for Courts-Martiato the Deputy Judge Advocate General of the Air Force, Maj. Gen. Thomas J. Fiscus. The books will be forwarded to the Judge Advocate General's School at Maxwell AFB, Ala., for display in the JAG Traditions Room along with other important pieces of JAG history. During his presentation, Williamson recounted some of his experiences as an Air Force JAG. He was quick to tell the audience that the 1908 Manual for Courts-Martiwas already obsolete during his tenure in the Air Force. Williamson, who served as the Staff Judge Advocate at Hill AFB from became a member of the Judge Advocate General's Department at the very start of its formation. He began his military career in 1941 as a navigator with the Army Air Corps. During World War II, he l, al 1966-196- flew numerous missions out of both England and France on the Marauder. After a brief break to complete law school, Williamson returned to military service. He was part of the initial cadre of judge advocates serving on active duty when General Order No. 7 was signed in 1949, establishing the Judge Advocate General's Department as a separate department of the Air Force. n During his career, Williamson served under such C. Gen. as advocate Reginald generals Maj. judge Harmon, Maj. Gen. Albert M. Kuhfeld, Maj. Gen. Robert W. Manss, and Maj. Gen. James S. Cheney. He also worked 9, well-know- closely with then-Ma- Harold Vague, who was later j. promoted to major general and selected as the fifth Judge Advocate General of the Air Force. Williamson's assignments as a judge advocate spanned the globe, and included a tour in Vietnam at Tan Son Nhut Air Base as the, 7th Air Force Staff Judge Advocate. He retired from active duty in 1970, but remains active as a volunteer at Hill AFB. ChariotJluto Sales Grand A (CMS?
