Photo by Marvin Lynchard Teamwork is key to successful Phase I By Senior Airman Cindy Huston 388th Fighter Wing Public Affairs People from the 388th Fighter Wing and the 75th Air Base Wing were put to the test last week during the base's combined Phase I exercise. "Phase I exercises train our personnel on duties required to process and deploy people, jets and cargo to a contingency location as quickly as possible," said Maj. Brian Schaaf, 388th Fighter Wing, plans and exercises. It is important that both the 388th and 75th participate during the Phase I exer- cises to ensure speed and accuracy should Team Hill ever be called upon to deploy. "The 388 FW doesn't own all the support functions necessary to deploy. This includes the Deployment Control Center, which is used to process our personnel and cargo during deployments," said Major Schaaf. "We depend upon the 75th ABW to run this process, allowing the mobility line to run smoothly." The biggest challenge during this past exercise was the high amount of personnel turnover. "We have had a 75 percent turnover in manning since last October's Operational Readiness Inspection. Our biggest obstacles include getting the rust off for those who haven't participated in a Phase I exercise lately and training new troops on their responsibilities," said Major Schaaf. During the exercise there were evalua-tor- s rating people from the 388th and 75th on how well they followed regulations, and watching out for overall safety issues. But, according to Col. Steve Hoog, 388th FW commander, Team Hill wasn't participating in the exercise to be graded. "We are participating in this exercise for one reason," said Colonel Hoog.
