The police officer on the scene suspected someone had been In the old shack prior to the fire. Another fire in the dilapidated buildings may be disastrous to other resident's property in the vicinity. The abandoned buildings, which contain open refrigerators, assembled beds with mattresses, a dark abandoned dirt cellar and weak flooring are not onjy dangerous but constitute an eyesore In the community. A small child, for example, wandering Into the open buildings could be found after an extensive community search locked Inside one of the early model refrigerators or seriously hurt on a lower level of the buildings after falling through the floor. Douglas Massman, principal of Helper Junior High School, told the Helper Journal the Kissamatakis buildings and the house on the west side of Uintah Street north of the school are favorite hangouts for students during lunch hours and after school. The many assembled beds In the Kissamatakis buildings are only lures to promiscuous behavior. An empty well of undetermined depth behind the house is covered only with a bedspring and poses as serious danger to curious trespassers, A woman who lives across the street from the Kissamatakis property told the Helper Journal she and another neighbor have fastened the doors leading to the buildings countless times. The barriers are torn down quicker than they are established, When the Helper Journal approached the city attorney suggesting a way to conduct a campaign to clean up the property, the paper was told legal problems made It impossible for the city to assist. Maybe the method the Journal suggested was legally questionable, but a city govern-jji- j ment body which has pledged to act for the benefit of the community should devise some method to attack the problem before someone is hurt, other's property is damaged or a long time community eyesore is prolonged. ii H&J (Continued from Page 1) Castle Gate townsite on June 10 and 11, respectively, Mr. Wickman said. aban-done- d Since salvage work started on the tipple May 20, only one accident resulted in injury to a worker. On June 3 Kerry Jensen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph C. Jensen of Price, was injured when he fell about 12 feet while working in the coal belt line on top of the Castle Gate Mine Tipple. Warning Issued Wickman warned that persons caught taking any salvagable material from the mine site will be prosecuted to the highest extent of the law. The mine tipple is being salvaged to accomodate new McCulloch Oil facilities which is expected to span the Castle Gate townsite.
