I am glad I did not give up. Over the years I had helped in the fight against cancer in a mod est way, but not in the vital, urgent, way I could have. It seemed so remote, so impersonal to me. Now, as a volunteer, I am in the fight with all I have. It gives me a new sense of fulfill-meof the .responsibilities of the gift of life. I have come to know a lot about volunteers. They are the lifeblood of the American Cancer Society. There are about 2,000,000 of them. They speak well for the future. They are workand for your sons and daughters, ing for you i and for all time. The great volunteer army of the American Arthur Godfrey Cancer Society does a lot more than snread g facts about cancer. This army gives comfort and assistance to the afilicted, mans oilices without pay, collects funds needed for research, education and services. Or at least, that is my experience. To the point of being a bore, I now never miss an opportunity to give my troubled friends the hard facts about cancer. I tell them they have the answer. Act and you may be saved; don't act and you will surely die if you have cancer.
