John Tennant Has Exciting Time Flying In Europe First Lt John H Tennant, pilot of the P-51 Mustang fighter plane u1 the European theater o! war, recently took part in a 3-way shuttle mission to Russia, Italy and back to England. Lt Tennant1 son of Mr & Mrs J ohn M Tennant of Sandy, had an exciting experience when it was necessary for him to parachute to safety over the GermanRussian battle line, but he succeeded in getting back to his base. Lt Tennant, a graduate oi Jord an high school and a former student at the University of Utah, enlisted in the army air corps in February 1942. He was graduated and received his first commission at the Luke flying field in Phoen ix, Arizona, apd was later prom oted to first lieutenant while on the west coast. He left for overseas duty several months ago. Sets Initial Meeting In keeping with National Education week, the first meeting of the season, sponsored by Sandy PwT A will be held Wednesday, Nov 15,,.at 8 p m at Sandy junior high school auditorium, it has been announced by Marlon S Bateman, president. 0 D Ballard, principal of the Jordan high school, will be the speaker of the evening. Other numbers will be furnished by the students of the elementary school, according to G Reed Sanderson, principal of the Sandy school and vice-president oi the Sandy P-TA. Ens. Nils Carlson Writes To The Home Folks In a letter received by Mrs J T Ostler this week from Ens Nils A A Carlson, USN, stationed in the South Pacific, he states that "The Sentinel has been coming to him 0 K and it is sure swell to read it out here." He says "Tha.nks for having the address changed so I wou ld get it." Nils also revealed that he is still participating in his favorite sport of baseball, and said he will sure be glad to play with all his friends back home again. He is a member of the "dive b omber, team who were going to play the "fighter pilots." Nils wishes to be remembered to all his friends and acquaintances in Sandy and vicinity. Miss Venna Jensen, a graduate of the L D S school of nursing, left Thursday evening for Seattle, \Vash, where she will be employed. Miss Venna Jensen entertained at a dinner at her home on Main street VVednesday evening honoring Don Smith of the US navy, who has been visiting with relatives and fr iends while on leave from the University of Washing~ ton.
