PETER PETERSON, Correspondent Mr & Mrs Frances Nelson entertained at dinner Wednesday evening for Cadet Lee Mickelson and Miss Thelma \Vardle of South Jordan. He returned to his new station in New Mexico Friday. Clarence Hyde arrived home last Tuesday for a visit with his folks. Mr & Mrs 0 Lindon Olson of Union are the proud parents of a son born Oct 27, at the Cottonwood Maternity home. Mrs Olson will be remembered as Miss Jennie Archibald formerly of Granite. Mr & Mrs Gordon Mickelson were hosts to a dinner party Wednesday evening of last week, complimenting Cadet Lee Mickelson of Crescent and Miss Thelma War!lle of South Jordan. Thursday morning Cadet Mickelson left by plane for Denver where he will tran$act bu$ine$$ matters in the A1r Service command. Mrs Genieve G Hand has been appointed first counselor to President Thea Despain, in the Granite ward Relief Society, to fill the position recently vacated by Mrs Beulah Green . Mrs Paul Ebert entertained at a chilQ.ren's party last Friday afternoon in compliment to the 8th birthday anniversary of her daughter, Joyce. Following play hour, the youngsters were seated at the table where refreshments were served to 12. A birthday cake bearing 8 candles was the centerpiece attraction. Complimenting Mrs Betty Griffith, a m.iscellaneous shower was given in her honor at the George Mu ir home Friday of last week by officers and teachers of the Gran~ ite Primary association of which Mrs Griffith was former Secretary. T en ladies were in attendance, refreshments were served. On Oct 27 Mrs Mary Mickelson entertained her birthday club at an attractive 2 o'clock luncheon in honor of her birthday anniversary. Covers were arranged !or 23 ladies. Cards were the diversion for the afternoon. A number of Granite's young folks enjoyed a Halloween social at the home of Miss Lila Archibald. Group games were enjoyed and prizes were awarded. The guests were seated at the table where pumpkin pie alo-mode and candy were served. Dahalias were the centerpeice attr action and favors symbolic of Halloween were used. Young folks in attendance were: Blanche Ebert, Marion Ebert, Darlene Lyman, John Robinson, Bruce Despain, Richard Pingree and the hostess. Clad in traditional Halloween attire Granite Mutual goers enjoyed a lively get-to-gether in the amusement hall Tuesday evening. It was the boys' turn to entertain with Jack Higgins, John Robinson and Dale Springer in charge. Following an hour of games, everybody enjoyed doughnuts, cider and icecream. Jannette Schow and Dale Springer won first prizes for the best costumes. S-Sgt Lawrenc.e Smith arrived in Granite Tuesday from Kansas for a coupJe of weeks furlough. Mrs Earon Jenson entertained her bridge club Tuesday at a 12:30 luncheon. Prizes were won by Mrs A E Pearson and Mrs Howard Barrows. Little Juanita Fairbourn, daughter of Mr & Mrs Alva Fairbourn, celebrated her 1st birthday Snnday, Oct 29. A birthday cake with 1 candle centered the table. F1ve little guests were present. Mrs George Hyde and Mrs Stanley Allgood entertained their b irthday club at Mrs Hyde's home S atu rday. Dinner was served at 2 p m to 14 guests. A dance will be held Friday (tonight) for Clifton Johnson, who is leaving for the armed forces soon. The J unior G irls enjoyed a party a t the ward house Tuesd ay evening, under direction of their teacher, Mrs Effie Olson. The 3 Bee Hive classes enjoyed a "hobo" party. The refreshments were "pot luck." It was under d irection of their Bee-keepers, Thelma Olson, Sylvia Kemp, Mary Dean and Lorna Allgood. A Halloween party was held at t he home of Miss LaVerle Jordan O ct 27. A luncheon was served to M arion Mickelson, Madge Wynn, R uby Sundquist, Reva Smith, Ardelle Sanderson and Ailene Fowler. Prizes were won by Ardelle S anderson of Draper, and Ruby S undquist. Mark Carroll and Ivan Fairbourn are home for a few days' furlough . Mark is visiting his wife and baby and Ivan will visit his parents. They were stationed at W olters, Texas. Mrs Clifton Johnson entertained for her birthday anniversary Friday. A dinner was served to Mrs Wilford Olson, Mrs Chester Jaynes, Mrs Homer Jaynes, Arvilla and Barbara Jaynes. Bette Ruth Olson visited during the past week with her cousin, Donna Olson of Magna. M r & M rs C Ed Lewis of Salt Lake City, and Mrs Clifton John son and Ronald were Sunday guests at the Homer J aynes home. Leora Fairbourn was a week end guest of Leona Fairbourn of Logan. The Union First ward Relief Society will hold their annual conference at 7:30 p m Sunday. Mrs Sylvester Walker, Mrs Lois Richardson, Mrs Cora Belich, Mrs Myrental Johnson, Mrs Edith Mounteer, Mrs Evelyn Christensen, Mrs Virginia Mounteer and lVIiss Norma Belich, members of the Sisters club, were entertained Thursday night by Mrs Elaine Fisher of East Millcreek. Mrs Vinee Fenstermaker was honored at a birthday party Monday. Those present were Mrs Clara Walker, Mrs Fern Nesbitt and Mis Mary Smart. The Union First ward Relief Society entertained the visiting teachers Tuesday afternoon at the Union amusement hall. Halloween was the decorative motiff and each teacher was given a Halloween novelty favor. A musical program was enjoyed. In charge of the event was Relief Society president, Mrs Irene Nichol. because of lack of wearing appare!. Young and old alike go about in rags. In common with other relief agencies the Christian Science war relief committee is stepping up its activities and has already begun putting goods into warehouses so that they will be ready for distribution at the first possible moment. Christian Scientists will con~ tinue to do their own distributing wherever possible. Local committees of The Mother Church will be set up in each European country similar to those in operation in the British Isles so that personal ent and his need be met understandingly. With completion of its 4th year of activity the records of the committee show that it has distributed 2,522,059 garments to the needy overseas. About 1,634, 787 of them went to England; the balance to refugees and liberated countries in continental Europe as the way opened up. The same kind of clothing, both new and used, that bas been so gratefully received by bombed out families in England will be needed in still larger quantities. The Utah unit of the committee located at 360 East 3rd South street, used gannents in good condition .for men, women, children and in· !ants. Sturdy shoes are also needed; as well as household linens and blankets. Shoe racks and bag-s will keep shoes from being scuffed in the closet. DR 0 . J. S 2 lc Ray Pettingell recently returned to Farragut, Idaho, after spending a 15-day leave with friends and relatives here. He is the son of Mr & Mrs Clifford Pettingell. The East Midvale Gleaner Girls com.mardery was held Oct 24. Misses Kay and Janice Jensen were co-hostesses. Miss Sherlee Ann Bishop visited Monday with Miss Carol Spratling of West Jordan. Mr & Mrs 0 E Muir of Bingham were week-end guests of Mr & Mrs Bryan Bird. A Halloween barn dance was held Tuesday at the East Midvale ward house. Refreshments were served. Aprons and overalls were worn. Mrs Kate Jones and daughter, Mrs Arvil Durrant and son, De~ wain, of Blackfoot, Idaho, have been visiting currently with Mr & Mrs Jame Brady and other relatives and friends. Mrs Vera H Chamberlain of Kanab has visited recently with Mr & Mrs Junius Heaton and family, and with her daughter-inlaw, Mrs Garth Chamberlain and little granddaughter.
