Show MID_yA~~~'!'~H, FRIDAY, DECE~~R 6, 1935 VOLUME 2 ~~~M~ILL~IN~G·~AR~O~UN~D~\ IN MIDVALE '~==============~{ NOBLE Democratic ANOTHER gesture . . . Attorney General .Joseph Chez, has made public ale~ ter directed to Police Chief W. L. Payne and County Attorney Harold E. Wallace, announcing a purported crusade against Salt Lake City's four elite social clubs alleged gambling activities . . . naming the clubs and their locations, the names are as follows: The Town Club, the Alta Club, Commercial Club and The University Club. Since he did not state the exact time at which the raids were to be made it is only natural to suppose that the clubs will be phoned an hour or more ahead of any police activity . . . in order that the cards and chips can be put away and the Gideon's Bibles placed on the gaming tables. A little unusual, it seems, that the Purity Squad stool pigeons who have so surreptitiously ankled into the parlors or sumpin' of the small fry to cabbage onto their slot machines or buy a swig of illicit liquor were not employed to invade the sanctity of these haunts of our political big wigs and social elect. THE FACT that a maDESPITE jority of the bigger retail busi- nesses in the county report sales increases from 20% to 200% over the same periods in 1932 . . . many of the heads of those same firms are of the opi~ion that we should vote against our present national administration and return to power the Hoover-Fletcher republicans who dished out several billions of dollars through the Reconstruction Finance Corporation, during tb.e last two years of their incumbency . . . with consistent tightening of the country's commercial and industrial activities , . . in the interim. TOO,ersITwhoSEEMS that relief workare now receiving $55 to $94 monthly under the WPA set up are more dissatisfied with their lot than they were under the period of the direct relief with $15 to $30 per month. What is this peculiar American phenomenon that brings increased dissatisfaction and "disgruntlement" with everv semblance of improvement in the individual status? (Continued on page 8.)
