Hill employees earn $$$ for suggestions The Air Force Suggestion Program at Hill paid $122,026 for 407 suggestions received Oct. 1, 1995 through July 31, 1996. These helpful tips saved the government $4,083,136. Hill's current adoption rate based on its submissions is 50 percent. The current participation rate is 8.13 percent. Scott H. Laughter, ICBM System Program Office, noticed the price for an opheads up tical light filter for the display had increased approximately 300 percent between a purchase made in 1988 and one made in 1992. An investigation revealed an actual overpricing. He saved the Air Force $13,451 and received $1,104 for the suggestion. Donald J. Strack, ICBM System Program Office, noted the ICBM secondary door spanner nuts were made of steel that would corrode into the secondary door, causing extensive problems. Preventive maintenance could not be performed and so the secondary doors had to be removed, which was expensive. Strack suggested a spanner nut be made of a high density nylon that would not corrode. This new method of repair allows personnel to accomplish preventive maintenance without removing the secondary doors. Strack saved the Air Force $305,315 and received $5,477 for his suggestion. Toni G. Prioletti, Aircraft Directorate, noted that rib core inserts (which fit on ventral fins on the left- - and right-hanall 6 models) were being manufactured new each time. For a set of 10 cores, the cost was $512.86. Prioletti suggested making these rib core inserts out of scrap aluminum, rather than ordering new material. The suggestion has resulted in the cores being manufactured using only 10 minutes labor each and at no material cost. This suggestion saved the Air Force $60,818 and she received $2,525.
