The message of the Holocaust was depicted in poetry, scripture and drama during Tuesday's Holocaust Memorial Service, held at the Hill Aerospace Museum chapel. Speakers included Col. Larry Wheeler, 75th Air Base Wing commander; Maj. (Dr.) Michael Spatz, Jewish lay leader; Rabbi Frederick Wenger from Salt Lake City's Congregation Kol Ami and Chaplain (Lt. CoL) Jim Sands, senior chaplain. The hour-lon- g service was sponsored by the base chaplains. Noting that the service recalls the deaths of millions in Nazi concentration camps during World War II, Wenger added that the spirit of Hitler lives in our day in the form of hatred and intolerance for others. Qualifying recipes must have a preparation and cooking time of 60 minutes or less, use at least 1 pound and no more than 2 pounds of beef, use not more than eight ingredients excluding salt, ground black pepper and water, and be an original, unpublished recipe. This very day of remembering helps," Wenger said. "But if we see the Holocaust as historic to Jews alone, as a Jewish experience alone, as something that happened in Germany way back then, it will turn our exercises into a sham. Mark this period of remembering to help make ourselves more sensitive to the ideals that should make America a better place." Selections from the drama, "I Never Saw Another Butterfly" were presented by high school students from several faiths in the Salt Lake City area, directed by Paul W. Draper.
