Show Jan. 11, 1996 Open to active duty, family members, DOD civilians Strength training class available Active-dut- y personnel, retirees, family members and Department of Defense civilians who want to begin or improve their strength training program will have their chance next month. The Hill AFB Health and Wellness Center has announced strength training classes for both men and women to develop a general strength conditioning program that incorporates individual characteristics. The class requires a commitment of one hour a week for four consecutive weeks. Participants will set personal goals and sign a contract with the instructor, Brian Meadows, to make their personal programs successful. Separate classes for men and women will be limited to five to eight individuals per class. They will be designed to ad- dress needs. gender-specifi- c Participants can expect these benefits from the strength training program: An increase in lean body mass and an decrease in fat. A general improvement in strength and muscle tone and definition. Correcting imbalances and weaknesses within the musculo-skeleta- l system. Improvement in sports performance and active play. Prevention and rehabilitation of injuries and ailments. "Along with cardiovascular fitness and flexibility, strength training is an important component of an overall fitness program," said Maj. Rochelle Ducharme, director of the HAWC. "Two or three days a week of strength training can add significantly to an individual's fitness and health." , Women's classes begin on Feb. 7 at 1 p.m. Men's classes begin on Feb. 9 at 12:30 p.m. at the Hess Fitness Center. Those wishing to participate must stop by the HAWC, Bldg. 1277, to fill out health history, risk screening and general information and goal forms.
