Sol valid h uh an sacred duty for all NEED EXTRA CASH? History that is not remembered is bound to repeat itself. That truth has been spoken so much over the years that a person stands the risk of becoming jaded from hearing it so often. Virtually no event in the annals of human history calls for continual remembrance more than the Holocaust of 50 years ago. Hitler's Third Reich sought to systematically exterminate a race of people, the Jews, with many other people also becoming victims of their madness. On April 20. at 11 a.m.. in the Hill Aerospace Muse um Chapel, the Hill AFB community will stop to remember the victims of the Holocaust. Our Holocaust Memorial Service on April 20 will be a prelude to the National Days of Remembrance for the Victims of the Holocaust, which happens April this year. When we prepared for last year's observances, our consciousness was particularly stirred by the acclaimed movie. "Schind-ler'This List." year the haunting memories of the Holocaust have again come alive through observances marking 50 years since the liberation of Auschwitz, the infamous Nazi death camp in Poland. It was in January 1945 that four Red Armv divisions of the Russian forces en 23-3- 0 Oscar-winnin- GETS YOU CASH INAFLASH! s g circled and liberated the series of camps we have come to know collectively as Auschwitz. This was the camp where the notorious Nazi doctor Joseph Mengele performed unimaginable medical experiments on human beings as if they were so many laboratory rats. From gas chambers, hangings, starvation and other atrocities, death on a massive scale became systematized and industrialized. When January 1945 began, more than 65.000 prisoners were still in Auschwitz, a mere fraction of the 1 .5 million who it is believed had passed through its gates. When the Nazis fled as the Russian forces approached, they predictably made sure they took many prisoners with them, to kill along the way as they headed back to Germany. Thus, only 7.000 remained to be liberated as the Russians entered the camp. Multiply the horror of Auschwitz by the many other death camps, and you know why we must remember. While Jewish people were the primary target of the Third Reich, our Holocaust Memorial Service will remind us of other victims as well, including many Americans and other Allied forces who died in World War II. Everyone is welcome to join us on April 20, 1 1 a.m.. at the museum chapel. For more information contact the Hill !106. AFB Chapel at Ext.
