Aleson Hill AFB Senior Chaplain Where do chaplains come from anyway? That's probably not a "burning question" for many of you, but the question has been partly answered for some of the Hill AFB family this summer. Since early July, the Hill AFB Chapel staff has hosted 2nd Lt. James S. "Steve" Parrott of Smyrna, Tenn. Parrott is a chaplain candidate, part of a special Air Force Reserve program for graduate-leve-l students preparing e work as clergy and for chaplains. full-tim- During summer breaks from studies, chaplain candidates pull short chapel training tours with active-dut- y staffs. Thus, they are able to "test the service as water" for future full-tim-e chaplains when their studies are completed. In many churches, they also -- 1 serve several years in the civilian arm of the churchreligious group to attain professional experience before ape chaplains. pointment as Parrott will be returning to Tennessee in a few days, where he shares life with spouse, Cyndy, and four children. He is enrolled in a special master's program at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, studying sociology and counseling psychology. Hill's summer chaplain candidate is also a bit of Air Force history in that he is the first-eve- r chaplain candidate appointed by the Church of Jesus Saints. When he Christ of Latter-da- y and returns as an his degree completes active-duta few years, in chaplain he'll bring more than academic train full-tim- y ing. Indeed, just a few months ago he was TSgt. Steve Parrott, a Air Force veteran, with job experience as a Russian linguist, command post specialist and disaster preparedness specialist. Upon being awarded his B. A. degree from the University of Maryland, he applied for and was accepted in the chaplain candidate program. As a closing point of interest, in 1974 (20 long years ago), Hill AFB had another chaplain candidate. He was a young United Methodist theological student from Denver named "Dennis Aleson," sporting a great mustache and no gray hair. Guess who has returned to Hill, sans the mustache and with lots of gray hair? 13-ye- ar T.T.ittfapnrwmi Surveys best way to get customer feecSbac Why is everyone using surveys? Almost without exception, every organization, company or business and in order to maintain a share has competition of a market or even to stay in business, every effort must be made to ensure their customers are satisfied. Without this data, the only information or input an organization would typically receive would be a customer complaint. Unfortunately, in most cases the majority will not even take the time to fill out a survey or lodge a complaint, but they do stop buying the product or patronizing the business. in particular, surveys by Air Air Force surveys Force Materiel Command are becoming commonplace. Restaurants have surveys on their tables wanting to know about the quality of the food, hotels ask about the cleanliness of their rooms, banks survey their customers asking the number of times they use an automated teller machine and product manufacturers inquire about delivery time and accuracy of face-to-fac- orders. Surveys come in the mail from radio stations wanting to know what time of day you listen, and airlines ask if the space between seats is adequate. Some surveys even ask personal questions like your age, whether you are male or female, income level and the number of children you have. mum SUMM SECTIONAL r?CI.OPAY OARAGE DOORS 16x7 Steel door Standard installation FREE estimate ' I 12 H.P. Why a survey about empowerment? The answer to that is AFMC wants to check to see if the considerable amount of time, money and resources dedicated to creating an empowered environment in which employees are given the proper training, opportunity, authority and resources to improve the organization has been effective. Management cannot simply assume the empowerment effort has been successful; it needs to be verified. In today's complex Air Force, decisions cannot rest on mere guesswork. Nothing can be taken for granted and nothing can be left to assumptions. We must manage by fact, and surveys are a key method to obtaining those facts. By asking our customers and suppliers through the use of surveys, we can break through to a smarter, more productive way of doing business. administered nninUa, EXTRA REMOTE CONTROL Great for multi-ca- r families Hurry Sale Ends August 31, 1994 Reg. $34.95 Rugged chain drive with durable steel construction 50 WH)f$ horsepower fftOfl our other gorooe door opener models 4 12 minute light delay Manual release in case of power failure 19,683 personal security cooes Automatic safety reverse motor worronty fr Is made bv World's Largest Manufacture of Garage Door Openers Lift-M- The as f. .
