Show 1 Jlly 23, 1 992 15 Hilltop Times 50th anniversary reflects upon lessons of war by Dave Kendziora History Office December 1991 to August 1995 marks the 50th anniversary of the United States' active participation in World War II. Through August 1995, the Og-de- n Air Logistics Center's Public Affairs Office and the Office of History are researching archives and interviewing World War II veterans to share relevant experiences. The 50th anniversary of World War II commemorative program is a Department of Defense-wid- e effort to reflect upon and teach the history and lessons of the war. It occurs during a time of major change in the shape and direction of world history, the most significant global transition since World War II. The program pays tribute to those who served particularly to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. It also strengthens new relationships and alliances that have been formed over the past 50 years. And it commemorates the unique American will that projects peace through strength. The program's objectives are as follows: Q Provide the Department of Defense family and the American public with a clearer understanding and appreciation of the lessons and history of World War II. D Honor veterans of World War II and pay tribute to the sacrifices and contributions made on the homefront by the American people. B Acquaint and reacquaint Americans with World War II as the central event of the 20th century that created the postwar world in which we live today, and also with the reasons why we fought for the values which we strove to protect and defend. Highlight advances in technology, science and medicine directly related to military research during WWII. : 4gBmQ'- 'f( .jjy TOPS For Everyone!
