To increase the chances of survival of trees re- jfik' cently moved northeast of Bldg. 891, they need to be pruned back, since their root system has been unavoidably damaged and will not support the foliage on the trees. If they do not trim at least half of the foliage off the trees, they will only have a 10 percent chance of survival in my opinion. The trees you refer to had to be moved to 1 allow for the construction of a much needed turn lane into Bldg. 891. Ordinarily, civil engineering would not trim trees at this time of year because their chances of survival are low. In this case, professional advice from the base landscape architect was to trim the trees as you suggested and this has been accomplished. The best method for removing trees is with a . tree spade, but in this instance too that was impossible because the root systems were entangled with buried communication lines. The civil engineering folks realize the chance of survival for the trees is very low because of the removal method and the time of year they were transk planted. If the trees die and it is decided replacements are necessary, the new trees will be planted using your recommendations when the chance of survival is better. Thanks for the good advice. Bingo 0 They stopped bingo at the Officers Club because of the low participation and made the announcement that anybody holding an AFLC card could go to the NCO Club and play bingo there. We went there and nobody on the night shift at bingo knew anything about the new policy. Is it true that the holders of an AFLC card can get in the NCO Club to play bingo? There was a breakdown in communication between the two clubs as to when the last night for bingo would be called at the Officers Club; therefore, night management at the NCO Club was not briefed concerning the new policy allowing Officers Club members to participate at Thursday night bingo at the NCO Club. By now, all necessary employees have been briefed that card holders of the Officers Club will be allowed to participate in the excellent bingo program at the NCO Club. Please remember guest privileges are extended to Officers Club members only. Bingo is called every Thursday beginning with the "Early Bird Game" at 6 p.m and regular games at 7 p.m. Jackpot games of $400 and $1,000 are also included. fjk Ji hours oyWhyGate isn't the eight-ho- ur Roy (Gate open on our shift on Friday? fl Thank you for the opportunity to clarify the operating hours of the Roy Gate. Due to a misprint in a recent Hilltop Times article, there has been some confusion on this issue. The Roy Gate is open on the eight-hou- r Friday from 8 a.m. and from 12:30-5:3- 0 p.m. These hours are designed to accommodate peak traffic flow patterns. If you have further questions on gate operating hours, please contact MSgt. David Mally at Ext. What is break policy? Are we entitled to the same privileges as the smoker? non-smo- ke i JrL The base policy for employees who desire to smoke during duty hours is that they be permitted to visit authorized smoking may areas provided their performance of work is not adversely affected. Our objective is to work environment and to distoward a smoke-fre- e courage smoking. If workload permits, the supervisor has the authority to grant a short unscheduled break to those who request it. Supervisors are expected to manage their assigned manpower to achieve production goals. They have the authority to grant short unscheduled breaks to smokers and alike. non-smoke- rs think it is about time the swing shift supervisor, Ralph Sibert, got an "atta boy" for the excellent manner in which his shift moves material out of Automated Storage Module to all the outlying areas on the swing shift. Too much that is negative is said, and it's about time they heard something positive. I for one know they do haul material in a quick and timely manner. We have nothing to complain about and I'd like to thank them. However, tor You are thoughful to compliment Ralph Sibert and the swing shift crew for their excellent and timely work. Your remarks have been passed on to all those deserving employees. It is a pleasure to respond to such positive feedback. I too wish to express my thanks for a job and Kudos percent customer satisfaction. This team takes great pride in the quality service and support it provides customers. would like to give special thanks to Dr. Stephen Hedrick from the Hill flight surgeon's office. As a member of the 421st Fighter Squadron, I was pleasantly surprised to see him deploy with us to Canada on a voluntary basis. He is always dedicated to patient care and always available when we need him. I would just like him to be recognized for his efforts. Thank you. Capt. When work shifts overlap, the shifts will be arranged so that time required for incidental duties will be part of the regular scheduled day. Making or drinking coffee at the start of the shift is not an incidental duty. Employees required to wear special government furnished clothing are allowed a reasonable amount of official time at the beginning and end of the work shift for the changing of the special clothing. Five minutes will normally be sufficient to meet requirements. However, additional time may be necessary based on management requirements. Office and clerical personnel are expected to work until the close of the shift and are not allowed a clean-u- p period. Shop or warehouse employees working at benches, on equipment, or in areas which must be cleaned daily may, at the supervisor's direction, be allowed a reasonable time for such clean-u- p at the end of the work shift. refunds Re-thinki- ng understand the base restaurant no longer delivers refunds lost in vending machines, that you have to drive to one of the cafeterias to pick them up. It seems to me that the cafeteria people hit every building with candies and pop and it would be a lot more convenient for them to deliver the refunds. It would save money on my part. I'd hate to have to drive to a cafeteria just to reclaim 45 or 50 cents. Seems like a ripoff to me. I The base restaurant vending operation s oversees some vending machines on Hill AFB. The former method of delivering refunds via vending route drivers was cumbersome and resulted in service and maintenance delays on machines. A recent AFLC staff assistance visit recommended refunds be made available through base restaurant activities. In that way, serious machine malfunctions will be known to management in a more timely manner and control of refunds will be enhanced. Additionally, vending route driver efficiency will increase with removal of the refund duties, and patrons who have lost monies as a result of vending machine malfunctions have the opportunity to obtain refunds more quickly. For further information, please contact restaurant management at Ext. Mk 750-plu- to serve the base. I would also like to extend my appreciation to Captain Hedrick for the exceptional care he extends to his patients. This is for all the plained about the people who have com- schedule. Personally, I think it is the best thing that ever happened here at Hill. I enjoy the three-da- y weekends, not to mention the four-da- y weekends. All I can say to those who aren't happy with it is our jobs here are great, the pay is great, the benefits are great. Just live with it and enjoy it. The days we have off are great! 5-- 49 Your positive comments about the Compressed Work Schedule are appreciated Since basewide implementation on Jan. 12, it seems that the majority of the employees participating in the CWS also enjoy it and hope it will continue. |
