Show ACTION LINEEXT, 77000 Of for rofroshor In phono courtesy is about telephone courtesy. I think My complaint it is about time all the employees on this base were given a refresher course in identifying themselves and where they work and having a little courtesy when they speak to a person on the other end of the line. Especially now when we are going through Integrated Organizational Development changes and everyone is moving all around the base. The phone numbers we have on files are all outdated, " but it would only take an extra second to be a little courteous and let the people who are calling know they are calling the wrong number and what the new number is, instead of acting like they have disturbed you and are interrupting you from your job."' If we are going to have a company concept, it's about time everybody started having a better business attitude when they are on the telephone. Thank you. You saw an excellent example in his active use of the Action Line, a tool I plan to keep fully employed. Regarding the acceptance of innovative ideas from the directorates; as I understand the current system, all directorates agreed to retain the power to disapprove Process Action Team suggestions and recommendations at the division level or higher. I agree with this level further, 1 will undertake a personal review of the PAT process and specific PAT decisions to ensure ideas are being reviewed at the appropriate level. When I chaired my first Quality Council meeting on . Oct. 12, I shared the following changes with those who attended: First off, it's time to fine tune the quality program we have at HOI AFB today. We've just completed the Integrated Organizational Development reorganization, and many of you are still in the midst of restabilizing under your new directorates. As we get further into the new fiscal year under IOD, e it is necessary to establish some near-- , mid- - and of each in to the relate that goals quality process our organizations. Objective goals will give all of us the ability to measure our respective progress, whether it be quality production, management or services. Next, as I see it, we have a partnership a partnership aimed at achieving excellence. In your Action Line call you mentioned that some people won't listen, and will not consider changes for the better. A vital part of our corporate effort here will be improved communication; that means both a willingness to speak up and a commitment to quality listening. . I honestly believe in the power of people, Hill people, excellence. Please help me to spread to drive world-clas- s word: Our partnerships must become reality. We need to meet or exceed the needs of our customers. We can help each other achieve this goal by continuing to analevel whatever at our and they are processes improve lyze in our organizations. This is not a panacea or a pat prescription for success; it will take hard work and a breakdown of real or imagined barriers, if they now exist. I encourage each member of the Hill partnership to join with me in achieving these, our quality goals. long-rang- Rosolvo pricing incidont and a I was in the base exchange recently sign posted above some Crayola Art Kits said $2.95. ' There are three or four secretaries and four supervisors above me that know that I did not donate to the CFC. To me this is against my Privacy Act rights and I think that is totally wrong. I also feel it is coercion. I think the CFC is good, but we donate to charities in our local area such as Scouts and the March of Dimes. I don't need to go through CFC to donate and it's nobody's business but my own. Can something be done to eliminate this violation of privacy and coercion? Follow through with promiso we moved into base housing, we were told QWhen would clean our house when we left. : We're now told that as of Oct. 1 we are responsible for cleaning the house ourselves. That doesn't seem fair. Couldn't they clean the houses of the people who were promised, and have the people who moved in after Oct. clean their own houses? - J' . n . - . . 1 . There have been minor changes in the way we han- die the cleaning of base houses during occupancy , effective Oct. 1. The changes are primarily administrative and will not have major impact on occupants of family housing. We are not going back to the days of white glove inspections; however, housing occupants are expected to do some clean-u- p prior to moving out. The details were outlined in the standards letter sent to all military family housing residents on Sept. 18. This cleaning is no different from what would be expected when a family moves from an off base rental residence such as an apartment or home. The small change is the result of loss of funding, but will not have major impact on family housing residents. . Jt1 I appreciate your comments regarding the CFC. As you know, the purpose of the CFC is to provide federal employees the opportunity to help people who need our help. Each year when the campaign kicks off, goals are established. These goals are designed to enable our Hill AFB organizations and people to donate in support of the many worthwhile charities. Employees are invited to a meeting that explains the campaign, and at this time can sign up by payroll deductions or by contributing cash. Our goal is to ensure that every individual is given an opportunity to participate by contacting them individually or in groups. While I don't think it's improper to ask you again if you didn't participate initially, it was wrong to identify you and others as to your pervisors or peers. Our program is strictly voluntary and coercion is not proper. We will caution our supervisors again on this point. You mentioned your support of the local Scouting programs and March of Dimes. Are you aware that you could designate these agencies to receive your CFC -- Egg 0 s' 71 There are many people who have the same concerns 1 as you. In establishing the Morale, Welfare and Recreation credit card, we were trying to work out a convenient way for our civilian work force to use all MWR facilities, including the Hess Fitness Center. It has become obvious that many civilian work force members want only to use certain facilities and not all facilities ' provided by MWR. We are currently looking at this situation to determine what policy will be established and what fees civilians, will pay for using MWR facilities. Until that is resolved, the MWR credit card requirement for use of Hess Fitness Center will be held in abeyance. For your information, club cards purchased at DDO will not be accepted. Giving your income to DDO would not offset the cost of operation at the Hess Fitness Center, and in addition, we do not provide reciprocal athletic privileges due to overcrowding in both facilities. live in Area C. I realize the enormity of change here is causing concern and some confusion. I appreciate those of you who have gone the extra mile throughout this period of change. As to your specific concern, I'd like to personally encourage all people here to be considerate of their fellow workers, whether using the phone or in personal contact. That doesn't mean you must like what's going on; however, it's the fair way to approach each other as team workers,' all with a united purpose. My thanks in advance. N 11 Hilltop Times Sir, my problem concerns the Hess Fitness Center. I am a civilian, and as far as I'm concerned, joining the Noncommissioned Officers' Club doesn't suit me. I already have a credit card and I don't use the facilities or services offered by the NCO Club. All I want to do is use the Hess Fitness Center. I know the West Side Gym is open in Bldg. 1277, but it doesn't have free weights, which is what I like to use. With the 6 p.m. constraint, I would drive an additional 30 miles, which is both inconvenient and costly. A second question I have concerns the Defense Depot Ogden facilities. I can buy an NCO Club card here and go down and use DDO facilities. Why can't I buy Club card and use it at Hill AFB facilities? I was told by DDO employees that Hill directed them not to sell cards to Hill employees. Yet, if I buy my card at Hill I can use DDO facilities. I just don't understand the philosophy behind this. I'd appreciate a response to these questions. your comments will be recorded and staffed through the responsible agency for action. CFC does not stand for carbon-fre-e cartons. It stands for chlorofluorocarbons, which are very detrimental to the environment and not in the least bit recyclable. Some products are made by injecting the CFC as gases into styrenes which are made from benzene, a known carcinogen. Polystyrene foam is also completely nonbiodegradable. Manufacturing of CFC is responsible for depleting the ozone layer and should never be burned. Even non-CFfoam takes up a lot of space for its weight, and production of these in the form of pentane and butane contrib- utes to urban smog. i ."
