But the Air Force way of life presents many opportunities each year for servicemembers, civilian employees and their families to bid farewell to those who must leave one base for another assignment. Next week, base and community officials will bid farewell to Maj. Gen. (lieutenant general selectee) and Mrs. Robert P. McCoy. The Ogden Air Logistics Center commander and his wife will depart for Wright-PattersoAFB, Ohio, where the general will assume duties as the Air Force Logistics Command vice commander. The McCoys both said they are taking many fond memories with them of Hill AFB and Utah. Mollie McCoy, like Air Force spouses throughout the world, saw her household goods packed this week and is preparing for the move to Wright-Pattersoand Dayton, Ohio. "As an Air Force wife, home is wherever we are stationed. We will enjoy Ohio again because we still have many friends there," Mrs. McCoy said. "We are, however, really going to miss co-work- I t i ' a, Z. .. 'a 'Jkv L ( n n U.S. Air Force Photo by Ralph C. Jensen Utah." She said her first impressions of Utah still hold true more than a year later. "We were first impressed by the people, the openness and the friendliness. These things have not changed. It is not just here on the base or those you know or work with, it's all over Utah. The people are wonderful." - Reminiscing Mollie McCoy reviews a book about the local area history before the movers arrive. and others are pursuing their educational and personal goals. "There is still a role for spouses to be volunteers in our community," Mrs. McCoy said. "Their volunteer commitment might fluctuate Cots involvod over the years, but it is there. I also find that Mrs. McCoy is extremely active in both the most people still want to give of their time and military and civilian communities. "I've served become part of the Air Force community. This is why I love Utah, because you really have an open feeling," she said. She emphasized that through their travels, "We have covered everything in Utah. We've hiked the north rim of the Grand Canyon, Bryce and Zion (national parks) last summer. Fortunately, we also went to the Tetons and Yel- lowstone last year before it all burned." When not climbing the area's mountains, she said they enjoy playing tennis, bicycling and entertaining at home. "I love to cook and we enjoy the more formal entertaining, as well as having fun at a barbecue in the backyard. "Sharing time with the McCoys' seven children and five grandsons is also a top priority for this energetic lady. "The children are scattered from the east coast to the west coast. We try to visit them as often as possible and they enjoy coming to Utah as well." The McCoys will depart Utah after Tuesday's ceremony. They said they will carry with them memories of their assignment here and the warm hospitality of the state's residents. "It's been a wonderful time. When I think about it, it seems like I've been here forever and, it's only been a little over a year.
