In conjunction with the award, the directorate will be the AFLC nominee for the 1986 Air Force Mainteriance Effectiveness Award in the Depot Maintenance category. The Ogden directorate will compete with nominees in depot activities from the Electronics Security Command and the Air Force Technical Applications Center. "The competition for this year's award was clearly the tightest ever," said AFLC Chief of Staff, Maj. Gen. Charles C. McDonald. Reviewing of the directorates for the award and nomination first begins at the maintenance depu-tat- e n at AFLC Headquarters, AFB, Ohio. Then, deputy chief of staff, Maintenance, Brig. Gen. John Nowak, reviews the directorates and sends his recommendations to the command section for final approval. It has been nearly 10 years since the maintenance directorate here received the award. "At the risk of sounding trite, I would say we earned it the old fashioned way through hard work," commented Col. Richard A. Browning, director of Maintenance. The ALC maintenance directorates were judged from data AFLC headquarters received from each directorate throughout fiscal 1986. Other criteria Wright-Patterso- quality, resource management, innovation and overall maintenance management. "The quality and responsiveness of our maintenance effort throughout AFLC has never been better," said General McDonald. "Congratulations to the Ogden maintenance force and thanks to everyone in AFLC for an excellent year." A nomination package was not needed to receive the AFLC award, but the Ogden'maintenance crew is busy preparing a required informative packet which Headquarters USAF must receive by Monday. The package will include: a mission statement, a chronology of significant events for the previous 12 months, a listing of key personnel, a skill level break-ou- t of the work force, budget and safety data, narratives of accomplishments, descriptions of the effective use of maintenance resources and explanations of innovative management actions. Pictures must accompany the narratives. "I'm pleased and proud for the directorate," said Colonel Browning. "I've known for a long time how dedicated and professional our people are, and this is fitting recognition for their endeavors." One of the accomplishments which will be included in the package is the development of Munitions Propogation Testing. The testing resulted in a safer method of storing the Mark 82 bomb which saved the Air Force more than $150 million on munitions storage facilities. Another accomplishment is development of a new calibration procedure for testing the Security Police . 4s, "...this award must be shared by the 'Hill family' for it would have been impossible to win without the dedicated support of others." radar guns. The method is similar to the one used by the Ohio State Highway Patrol and has been adopted for use throughout the Air Force. Also, two of the directorate's most important programs fully matured and surpassed expectations. One program, Rivet MILE, is enhancing the readiness of the Intercontinental Ballistic Missile force under Strategic Air Command by refurbishing 1,000 launch facilities and 100 launch control facilities at SAC wings. the six Minuteman-equippe- d Second is the Support Center Pacific program which involves a detachment of Ogden ALC acting as the executive agent for AFLC. "We have continued to provide a good quality product to our customer regardless of what it is," explained Colonel Browning. "Our quality overall just keeps improving. It's on time and it's done right the first time." The colonel says the directorate didn't go it alone. "We achieved the award with the help and the support of many other agencies on Hill," he explained. "In many respects then, this award must be shared by the 'Hill family' for it would have been impossible to win without the dedicated support of others." |
