(AFNS) F100 jet engine tests A test facility at San Antonio Air Logistics Center, Kelly AFB, Texas, will help Air Force Logistics Command save millions of dollars on the F100 jet engine. The engine is used in both the 5 and 6 aircraft. The center's Cryogenic Spin Test Facility will test and actually strengthen the engine's fan disks. The new process tests the disks by spinning them at very high speeds in tanks cooled to minus 300 degrees Fahrenheit with liquid nitrogen. The extreme stresses of the test will cause a fan disk with a flaw as small as .005 inch to break The test in creases the tensile strength ot disks without detects, and the life of disks that survive the test is extended. F-1- Air Command and Staff College Air Command and Staff College will soon permit more time to complete associate program courses. Students of the 1984 Seminar Program and the correspondence course after Jan. 1, 1984, will be allowed three years to complete the Intermediate Professional Military Education Program. Those who fail to complete the requirements within the extended enrollment period will not be allowed to for two years.
