Conditions that have existed for hours or days, colds, rashes, fevers that respond to usual treatment, diarrheas, minor bruises or strains, can usually wait until the next day. Sometimes a phone call to our ER can help you decide whether to come to the ER now or make an appointment. Being seen electively or by appointment gives the hospital more time to evaluate the patient. Also, necessary procedures for diagnosis are better utilized. Good follow-u- p also becomes more available. Indiscriminate use of the ER because it is simply convenient is unfair to all parties, patients, and hospital staff. It is a misconception that the medical officer of the day (MOD) comes on duty at 4 p.m. just to conduct an after hours clinic. The MOD has already worked all day and is maintained in the hospital to see the urgent or emergency problems. He or she does get fatigued due to long hours and hard work. The staff at the USAF Hospital Hill is pledged to give quality care to all our patients. You will help us by being more discriminate in the use of the Emergency An emergency is an unforeseen combination of circumstances or the resulting state that calls for immediate action. To expand on this, we could say any threat to life or limb is an emergency. Many emergency rooms (ER), including ours at USAF Hospital Hill, are misused at . . Extra appointments are available for the more urgent cases, i.e., flu symptoms- - Our appointment system is accessible to all who have minor illnesses, minor accidents and relatively urgent problems and we to improve this. He began his career at Hill on Dec. 6, 1942 as a mechanic's learner in the Directorate of Maintenance Room. and four years later began working in the boiler plant. Carter has been a shift foreman since 1973 in the central boiler plant which supplies heat and industrial steam for the base. He said he plans to work around the house and do some traveling after he retires. His hobbies main include woodwork and oil painting. During his tenure at Hill, Carter has received many awards for his service of letters including commendation and sustained superior performance awards.
