Dina 2849 Security Police Squadron arrests seem to be on the increase this week, along with minor thefts and loose pets. Off-ba- se The high price of gasoline has caused some personnel to try and obtain it illegally. Reports will continue to come in if we do not become more aware and take preventive measures. Loose dogs are really causing concern on base. In one of the housing areas, a pet scratched a wife. This incident raised some serious questions regarding control of loose pets and actions to be taken against violators or owners. Some people never learn. A young airman whose license was suspended for driving under the influence (DUD, was apprehended for DUI and driving on revocation.. One military member called in on Crime Stop, Ext. 7867 (STOP), and reported an individual attempting to gain access to a parked vehicle. When the Security Police Unlocked fuel patrol arrived, it was discovered the owner had locked himself out. This call was legitimate; however, the next one may stop a crime in progress. If it looks unusual or strange, call it in. STOP, Ext 7867. An airman was picked up downtown by the local gendarmes for possession of a controlled substance and driving on a suspended license. Bail was set at $500. Inattentive driving and following too closely can cost quite a lot. A young driver learned this lesson the hard way to the tune of $2,500 in damages to two vehicles. Fortunately, there were no injuries. Three airmen off base sure got themselves in trouble with local law enforcement officials: Driving under the influence, speeding (100 mph in a 55 mph zone), evading police, possession of a controlled substance and public intoxication. Aggressive patrolling and cooperative witnesses could result in more apprehensions and subsequent prosecutions, but due to the nature of this property, it cannot be separated from fuel in the fuel tank of the perpetrator. Therefore, it cannot be returned to the victim and remains a monetary loss. ' j ft invito iheGi The best precautionary measure for this criminal activity would be preventive measures. Security Police encourage all the military and civilian communities to consider purchasing locking gas caps or coil devices to preclude introduction of a siphon hose through the gase tank filler pipe. They also encourage anyone who witnesses a suspicious activity in base parking lots to call Crime Stop, "STOP," Ext. 7867. Professional policeman Jeffrey E.
