A Whether or not leave without pay (LWOP) may be approved in situations where individuals have a balance of leave to their credit depends on the particular reason for the request. In two situations, requests for LWOP cannot be denied. These are: QWe, A for medical treatment. In cases of disability retirement, LWOP can be granted only after all sick and annual leave has been exhausted. In other cases, the granting of LWOP is a matter of ad- ministrative determination by the approving official. Air Force Regulation provides guidance on several circumstances in which approval of LWOP would be appropriate. If further information is needed, contact the Civilian Personnel Office, Ext. 6142.
